TechSpot’s May 2025 review found the GeForce RTX 5060 broadly competitive with the RTX 4060 Ti and RTX 3070 in its 18-game averages, but its 8GB of VRAM caused serious trouble in some demanding games—especially at 1440p. That makes it a more convincing esports and 1080p card than a worry-free choice for modern, graphics-heavy games. The review’s headline, “They Didn’t Want This Out,” is editorial framing; the article describes challenging launch circumstances but does not establish that anyone intended to suppress the card.

What the RTX 5060 is

The RTX 5060 is an 8GB graphics card built around Nvidia’s GB206 GPU. TechSpot’s May 22, 2025 review lists GDDR7 memory, 448 GB/s of bandwidth and a 145W total board power rating. Its specifications are:

Specification RTX 5060
GPU die and process GB206, 181 mm², TSMC 4N
Shader cores 3,840
Texture units / ROPs 120 / 48
Boost clock 2,497 MHz
Cache 32 MB L2
Memory 8GB GDDR7 at 28 Gbps
Memory interface / bandwidth 128-bit / 448 GB/s
PCIe interface PCIe 5.0 x8
Total board power 145W

These figures are those listed in TechSpot’s RTX 5060 review; TechSpot’s review does not independently verify them against Nvidia documentation. The x8 connection is worth checking if you are upgrading an older PC: TechSpot cautions that PCIe 5.0 x8 may be more consequential on older platforms, particularly PCIe 3.0 systems.

How fast is the RTX 5060 at 1080p and 1440p?

In TechSpot’s 18-game test suite, the RTX 5060 came out around the RTX 4060 Ti and RTX 3070 overall at both tested resolutions. It was 22% ahead of the RTX 4060 at 1080p and 27% ahead at 1440p. At 1080p it was 6% behind the Radeon RX 7700 XT; at 1440p it was 6% ahead of Intel’s Arc B580. These are aggregate results from that review’s games and test conditions, not a prediction for every title or PC.

1080p vs. RTX 4060 RTX 5060 was 22% faster
1080p vs. Radeon RX 7700 XT RTX 5060 was 6% slower
1080p vs. RTX 4060 Ti and RTX 3070 Roughly level overall
1440p vs. RTX 4060 RTX 5060 was 27% faster
1440p vs. Intel Arc B580 RTX 5060 was 6% faster
1440p vs. RTX 4060 Ti and RTX 3070 Roughly level overall

Individual results show why an average is only a starting point. At 1080p, TechSpot recorded 48 fps in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, 47 fps in Stalker 2, 138 fps in Delta Force, 100 fps in Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty and 101 fps in Hogwarts Legacy. Those figures apply to the review’s particular settings and test setup.

Is 8GB of VRAM enough?

It can be enough for many games at 1080p, but TechSpot’s tests show that the 8GB capacity can become a hard practical limit in demanding titles and settings. The problem is not simply a lower average frame rate: the review found very poor performance or inconsistent frame times in some cases.

  • Stalker 2 at 1440p: TechSpot measured just 6 fps.
  • Oblivion Remastered at 1440p: The review recorded 34 fps, with 18 fps 1% lows.
  • The Last of Us Part I at 1440p ultra: The review reported inconsistent frame times.

These results do not mean every game will run poorly, nor do they establish a universal performance threshold for 8GB. They do show that buyers targeting high settings in new, memory-intensive games—particularly at 1440p—should weigh capacity and frame-time behavior alongside average fps. Lowering texture quality or other demanding settings may help, but the reviewed material does not quantify a universal fix.

What about ray tracing?

Ray-tracing results vary substantially by game, and some of TechSpot’s figures use DLSS upscaling. At 1080p, the review reported 36 fps in Alan Wake II with DLSS Quality, near 60 fps in Cyberpunk 2077 with Ultra RT and upscaling, and 112 fps in Spider-Man Remastered with ray tracing maxed. DLSS Quality renders internally below the displayed output resolution, so these results should not be read as native-resolution performance.

The spread between those games is a reminder not to infer ray-tracing capability from one benchmark. Check results for the games and settings you actually use, and distinguish native rendering from a DLSS-upscaled output when comparing cards.

Is the RTX 5060 worth buying?

TechSpot reported a $299 launch MSRP and a $330 US Newegg retail observation in its May 2025 review. Those are historical figures, not current prices. The review judged the card decent value under the market conditions it observed, but still declined to recommend it at that price because of the 8GB memory buffer. It considered the card more defensible for esports-focused 1080p play than for demanding modern games.

For a decision today, compare the actual price available to you with alternatives rather than treating the 2025 MSRP as a target or current quote. Look at performance in your games, VRAM capacity at your preferred resolution and settings, whether ray-tracing results depend on DLSS, and power and system compatibility. A card that is competitive in an average may still be a poor fit if its memory limits the games you want to play.

How to compare it with an RTX 4060 Ti or RTX 3070

TechSpot’s 18-game aggregates place the RTX 5060 roughly level with both the RTX 4060 Ti and RTX 3070 at 1080p and 1440p. That does not make the cards interchangeable: the cited aggregate answers only how they compared in that test suite.
