Nocs Provisions’ Portal AFN7 is a digital camera built around a screen-free way to shoot: compose with its digital viewfinder, then use the small rear OLED to navigate menus—not to review photos. It records 16MP stills and 4K UHD video at 30fps, adds six film-inspired digital presets, and carries an IP56 dust- and water-resistance rating. Its reported launch price was $179; Nocs’ homepage currently displays a starting price of $179.95.
What the Portal AFN7 is—and what “screen-free” means
The Portal AFN7 is Nocs Provisions’ first camera, following the company’s binoculars and monoculars. It is a digital camera, not a film camera: its film-inspired looks are applied as digital color treatments.
For framing, the AFN7 has a digital viewfinder. The 0.96-inch rear OLED is for navigating settings; launch coverage says it does not offer image playback. That means you cannot use the rear display to check a shot after taking it. Nocs presents this as a way to spend less time reviewing images and more time experiencing the moment, but that is the company’s positioning rather than a tested performance claim.

#1 Best Overall
- 16MP Sensor: Captures detailed photos with a CMOS sensor for everyday shooting
- Optical Zoom: 4x optical zoom with a 27mm wide angle lens for flexible framing indoors or outdoors
- Full HD Video: Records 1080p video for travel clips, family moments, or simple vlogging
- Memory Support: Works with Class 10 SD, SDHC, or SDXC cards up to 512GB
- LCD Screen and Battery: 2.7in LCD screen with 2 AA alkaline batteries for convenient on-the-go use
Film-inspired presets are digital filters
Nocs lists six filter presets plus a no-filter mode. Launch coverage names Kodachrome 64 and Kodak Gold 200 among the looks. These labels describe digital treatments; the camera does not use film. The available information identifies the preset count and examples, but does not establish how closely the results reproduce those films’ rendering.
Built for exposed trails, not underwater use
Nocs says the AFN7 has IP56-rated protection against dust, rain and spray. That makes it suited to weather-exposed outdoor use, but Digital Camera World cautions that it is not intended to be submerged. The rating should not be read as permission to take it underwater, and no independent durability test is established by the available launch coverage.

A distinctive option for Nocs optics owners
The included NocDoc alignment shroud is designed to let the AFN7 shoot through Nocs binoculars or monoculars, according to the manufacturer’s product page. This is a specific pairing feature for compatible Nocs optics; compatibility with other brands is not established. It offers a way to capture a distant view using the optics’ magnification, rather than relying only on the camera’s own up-to-8x digital zoom.
Price, availability and what comes in the box
DPReview and Digital Camera World reported a $179 launch price in October 2026. Nocs’ homepage currently displays a starting price of $179.95, a separate current listing rather than the launch figure. Launch reporting named Nocs Provisions and REI as retailers and listed Galapagos Gray, Moonwalk White and Lassen Black color options; current stock is not established.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Who the AFN7 may suit
- Hikers and outdoor users who want a compact camera with stated dust, rain and spray protection, while accepting that it is not for submersion.
- People who prefer not to review shots in the field and are comfortable composing through a digital viewfinder without rear-screen playback.
- Nocs binocular or monocular owners interested in using the included alignment shroud to capture views through compatible optics.
It may be a poor fit if you need immediate image review, adjustable focus, or a verified battery-runtime figure before a long outing. The product page and launch coverage report substantially different 4K recording durations, and neither source explains the test conditions; no independent battery test is established. No hands-on image-quality or durability testing is established either, so the listed resolution and protection rating describe specifications and intended use, not independently verified results.
