Not quite. boAt Crest AI lets selected earbuds handle some questions, device controls, music discovery, translation and account tasks by voice, potentially saving a few screen checks. It does not replace a phone: setup requires a compatible Android device, and conversational AI and translation need an internet connection.
What boAt Crest AI does
Crest AI is boAt’s feature platform for selected personal audio devices, built with Google Gemini. The earbuds connect to boAt’s Hearables app, which provides access to the platform. boAt describes Crest as an umbrella for these AI experiences; its Chief Product Officer, Shyam Vedantam, characterized the system as a move beyond the rigid, single-turn commands he associates with traditional voice assistants. Depending on the feature and device, a long press on the earbud’s CTC/MFB control starts a session; a tap stops it. boAt lists playback and volume control, conversational questions through Ask Crest, mood-based YouTube playlist discovery through Crest Play, translation, brainstorming, troubleshooting, and selected Google account actions through G-Assist. These are voice-accessible tasks, not a promise that every request can be completed without looking at a screen.
Which earbuds support Crest AI?
boAt names three eligible models: Nirvana Ion ANC, Airdopes Prime 701 ANC, and Airdopes Prime 800D. Compatibility may depend on the individual device’s serial number and pack status, so a model name alone is not a guarantee. Check boAt’s Crest AI compatibility check and its current support page before buying or activating a pair.

The compatibility conditions boAt Support specifies are Android 12 or later and an eligible product; iOS is unsupported. G-Assist also involves Google account setup. To activate, pair the earbuds with the Android phone, open the Hearables app, choose Explore Crest AI, and verify the product using its serial number or QR code. The phone is therefore part of onboarding even when the goal is to use voice instead of reaching for it later.
What using it can—and cannot—save you from
Crest AI is best understood as a way to reduce particular interactions: for example, asking a question, requesting a playlist, or dictating an email reply without opening the relevant app first. boAt’s FAQ specifically addresses checking work email; the available account actions depend on connecting the relevant Google services. This is not a phone-free workflow, and the feature descriptions do not establish that every email or calendar task can be completed entirely by voice. boAt’s Crest AI FAQ
- Internet: boAt says conversational and translation features require an internet connection. If connectivity drops, smart features may stop working.
- Offline music: boAt says music playback can continue without internet, but that does not mean Crest AI’s online features remain available.
- Google services: G-Assist requires the relevant Google account setup; a compatible earbud by itself does not grant access to those account actions.
Translation is not the same as multilingual commands
boAt’s product materials say Crest Translate supports up to 25 languages. That figure applies to the translation feature; it does not establish that general voice commands or conversations work in all 25 languages. In the October 2, 2026 interview, Vedantam said command input was primarily English at that time and that multilingual speech interaction was in development. How to choose between the compatible earbuds
AI features do not determine whether earbuds are a good fit for you. Compare the basics—fit and seal, sound, battery life, ANC, call quality, multipoint connectivity, and current price—and then confirm Crest AI eligibility separately.

Vedantam said conversations are encrypted and sent to a cloud backend rather than stored on the earbuds. boAt’s product page also says its AI features work without retaining personal data. These are company statements, not independently audited findings; readers who handle sensitive work information should review the vendor’s current privacy terms before connecting accounts or using conversational features. boAt also says AI does not improve sound quality. Crest AI is an added capability, not a reason to assume better audio, fit, or calls; judge those qualities independently.
