Nintendo announced that U.S. retail preorders for Nintendo Switch 2 would begin April 24, 2025, ahead of the console’s June 5, 2025 launch. At the time, the console’s suggested retail price was $449.99 and the Mario Kart World bundle was $499.99. Those are historical prices: Nintendo’s U.S. console MSRP is now $499.99, effective September 1, 2026, before tax.
When did Nintendo Switch 2 preorders begin in the U.S.?
Nintendo said U.S. retail preorders would begin April 24, 2025. The system launched June 5, 2025, so neither date is an upcoming preorder or launch event. In its April 18 announcement, Nintendo apologized for the delay but did not state a specific reason for it. Nintendo’s April 18, 2025 announcement set the revised preorder date.

In the April 18, 2025 U.S. announcement, Nintendo maintained the launch MSRP at $449.99 for the console and $499.99 for the console-and-game bundle. Nintendo later revised the U.S. console MSRP to $499.99 effective September 1, 2026; U.S. prices exclude tax. Nintendo’s May 8, 2026 investor presentation lists the revision and effective date.

Was the Mario Kart World bundle a better value?
At the announced launch prices, the bundle cost $50 more than the $449.99 console and included a download code for a game whose announced standalone launch price was $79.99. If you wanted Mario Kart World, the bundle therefore offered the game for $50 above the console-only price rather than paying the standalone launch price separately. That comparison describes the April 2025 offer; it does not establish today’s bundle availability or price.

- Use $499.99 before tax as Nintendo’s U.S. console MSRP effective September 1, 2026, rather than the $449.99 preorder-era figure.
- Check the retailer’s live listing for its actual price, stock, and whether a bundle is offered; MSRP does not establish any of those details.
- If you need more storage, Nintendo’s launch information says Switch 2 uses microSD Express cards for additional storage. The $59.99 Samsung 256GB card figure above was Nintendo’s April 2025 announcement price, not a verified current listing.
For digital games, Nintendo Support says that starting in May 2026, new Nintendo-published digital titles exclusive to Switch 2 will have an MSRP different from their physical versions. Retail partners set their own prices, and prices may vary. This later policy is separate from the April 2025 hardware preorder announcement. Nintendo Support’s explanation of Switch 2 game pricing gives the policy details.
