If an NHS Jobs vacancy says you cannot upload a CV, follow that vacancy’s instructions for where to provide your work history and evidence. Some adverts ask you to paste CV details into a form field; others assess a completed application form alongside a supporting statement. There is no single workaround for every NHS Jobs vacancy: use the job description, person specification and the live advert’s instructions to decide what to submit.
Why there is no one-size-fits-all CV workaround
“You will not be able to upload your CV” means you should not assume the form has an attachment option or try to bypass the employer’s process. The examples below show different employer instructions: one asks for a CV pasted into a form response, while another requires information in the application form and a separate statement. They are examples, not universal NHS Jobs rules.
| Vacancy example | What the advert asks for | Limit or assessment detail |
|---|---|---|
| K0003-26-0075 | Paste a full CV in the “Provide a CV” response; the advert says a CV cannot be uploaded as an attachment. | CV of no more than three pages. This is the limit in that advert, not a platform-wide limit. |
| Band 8b Consultant Physiotherapist, Ministry of Defence, K0003-25-0384 | Complete the detailed application form and provide a statement of suitability; the form and statement are marked together. The advert says not to email a CV. | 1,000-word statement in that advert. It was posted on 28 August 2025 and is closed; its instructions do not establish what another vacancy requires. |
Read the whole live advert before drafting. Its form fields, assessment method and stated limits—not another vacancy’s process—determine whether you should paste CV content, write supporting information, provide a supporting statement, or complete more than one of these.
Start with the person specification
NHS Jobs guidance says shortlisting assesses how closely an application matches the person specification and advises applicants to give clear examples in supporting information. Make a checklist of the essential criteria and identify where the form asks you to address each one. Then use relevant experience to show how you meet those criteria rather than relying on a general career summary.
#1 Best Overall
For each criterion, a useful drafting pattern is:
- Name the relevant skill, knowledge or experience.
- Describe what you personally did and the context or responsibility involved.
- Give a result or other evidence that demonstrates the criterion.
This is a practical way to organise evidence, not an official NHS Jobs template. Keep examples truthful and based on your own experience. A Ministry of Defence vacancy on NHS Jobs explicitly requires statements to be factually accurate and personal to the applicant.
Choose the right approach for the form you have
If the form has a “Provide a CV” field
Use that field as instructed. Paste the CV content into it and observe the vacancy’s stated page or length limit. Check that the pasted text is readable and includes the relevant work history and skills. Do not assume that a limit shown in one advert—such as the three-page limit in K0003-26-0075—applies to yours.
Rank #2
If the advert asks for an application form and supporting statement
Complete both components in the requested way. Use the application form and statement to present evidence against the criteria, and check whether the advert says they are marked separately or together. One Ministry of Defence example requests a 1,000-word statement and says the form and statement are assessed together; your own advert may set a different word limit or assessment method.
If the advert’s directions are unclear or the form is not working
Use the contact route given in that vacancy or the NHS Jobs help and guidance route. Do not email an unsolicited CV: the Ministry of Defence example explicitly says not to email one, and other vacancies may set their own document-handling instructions.

Make supporting information specific and complete
Supporting information is an opportunity to explain how your relevant experience meets the role’s criteria. NHS Jobs guidance identifies duties, skills, knowledge, experience, volunteering and other relevant material as possible content. Include employment gaps, research, publications or presentations where they help establish your suitability; leave out details that do not support the application.
Tailor the evidence to the actual post. NHS Jobs guidance says: “Never submit the same application form twice. Always adapt it to show how you meet the person specification of the particular post.” A CV or statement reused without adapting it can miss the criteria the vacancy asks shortlisters to assess.
Quick Recap
Before you submit
- Check every essential criterion against the application fields or statement.
- Confirm the live advert’s required fields, word or page limits, and assessment instructions.
- Proofread the text after entering it in the form and confirm all required sections are complete.
- Keep a copy of the advert and the text you submit for your own records.
