It is designed for active family play, not as a drop-proof or formally certified child-proof device. Unlike the Nintendo Switch 2, it does not center on handheld play and a conventional gamepad.
What is the Nex Playground?
Nex Playground is a small cube-shaped gaming system with a built-in camera and a privacy lid. Players move in front of a TV, and the camera tracks their movements instead of requiring them to hold a standard controller. T3 reports that the cube measures three inches on each side and can recognize up to four players; those figures are from its October 2026 coverage.
TechRadar’s June 2026 review describes setup as straightforward and says the system adapted to placement on a shelf in a TV stand. That is the reviewer’s experience, not a guarantee that every room layout will work equally well. An internet connection is required to download games initially, according to TechRadar.
What games come with it, and what does “a load of games” mean?
TechRadar and T3 both reported five included games in 2026. T3 named Fruit Ninja, Starri, Whac-a-Mole, Go Keeper, and Party Fowl. Check the current listing and package contents before buying, since included titles can change.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The larger catalogue is accessed through Nex’s Play Pass subscription. Catalogue counts differ across the cited coverage: TechRadar reported more than 50 titles in June 2026, while T3 described more than 60 in October 2026. Treat those as dated reports rather than a fixed catalogue size, and check Nex’s current offer for your region.
Play Pass is an ongoing cost, not a one-time part of the console price. T3 reported UK prices of £45 for three months and £90 for one year in October 2026; those figures are regional and may change. TechRadar also reported a US Amazon package at $330, reduced from $412, that included the console, a travel case, and a 12-month Play Pass. That was a reported deal, not a current price or guaranteed bundle.

How does it compare with Nintendo Switch 2?
| Factor | Nex Playground | Nintendo Switch 2 |
|---|---|---|
| Play style | Camera-based motion games played while standing or moving in front of a screen. | Traditional console play, with TV and portable modes, according to TechRadar. |
| Controls | Body movement tracked by the built-in camera; no conventional gamepad-centered play. | Conventional controls and handheld play. |
| Game choice | Five included titles were reported by TechRadar and T3 in 2026; Play Pass provides access to a larger catalogue. | TechRadar characterizes its game selection as broader. |
| Online features | TechRadar reports no online games, in-game purchases, loot boxes, or advertisements. Internet is needed for initial game downloads. | TechRadar reports online chat and multiplayer features that parents can restrict with parental controls. |
| Best fit | Families seeking active, shared motion play, particularly for younger children. | Families wanting portable play, conventional controls, and a wider range of games. |
This is not a straightforward “better console” choice. Playground suits children who are more likely to enjoy moving together in front of a TV; Switch 2 suits those who want handheld sessions or the broader traditional console library. TechRadar’s comparison is the basis for the Switch 2 features and positioning above.
Is the Nex Playground actually child-proof?
“Child-proof” is not established as a formal safety or durability rating. The cited coverage describes child-oriented design and a camera privacy lid, but does not establish drop resistance or a child-proof certification. Treat the phrase as headline shorthand, not as a promise that the console can withstand rough handling.

On privacy, TechRadar and T3 report kidSAFE+ COPPA compliance and say motion-tracking data is processed locally/on-device. T3 also reports a manufacturer statement about data sharing. These are descriptions reported by the publications, not an independent audit of the device’s software or data practices. The camera lid can cover the lens when it is not in use.

- Confirm the box contents: Verify which games are included and whether any advertised travel case or Play Pass is part of the specific listing.
- Check subscription terms: Compare the current regional Play Pass price and renewal conditions with how often your child is likely to use the additional catalogue.
- Plan the play space: The motion-based format depends on a suitable area in front of the screen; the cited coverage does not specify a universal minimum room size.
- Choose by play preference: Pick Playground for camera-based active play; consider Switch 2 if portability, conventional controls, or wider game choice matters more.
- Review privacy and parental settings: Check the manufacturer’s current terms and the controls available in the region where you buy.
Deal prices are especially time-sensitive. TechRadar reported a US price of $239, reduced from $299, on June 23, 2026, while T3 reported a UK early Prime Big Deal Days price of £214.99, reduced from £269, on October 5, 2026. Neither report establishes a price available now; compare current retailer listings and confirm the currency, included accessories, and subscription period.
