Newtech’s Ness1300 is reported to be a compact, two-bay desktop NAS with a 2.5GbE port and support for two 3.5-inch hard drives of up to 24 TB each. That adds up to 48 TB raw capacity, but with the reported RAID 1 configuration, two 24 TB drives provide 24 TB nominal usable capacity before formatting—not 48 TB. The specifications and Japan-only October 2026 sales plan come from a secondary report; Newtech’s official site did not provide a Ness1300 product page or launch notice in the available information.
What is the Newtech Ness1300?
Notebookcheck reported on October 7, 2026, that Japanese storage company Newtech had introduced the Ness1300 as a successor to its Ness1200. It is described as a compact desktop NAS aimed at clinics, small offices, and surveillance installations. Newtech’s official Ness1000-series page describes the Ness1050 and Ness1200, but does not independently confirm the Ness1300 specifications reported by Notebookcheck.
That distinction matters: the Ness1300 details below are reported specifications, not confirmed by a model-specific Newtech page in the available information.
How much usable storage does a 48 TB two-bay NAS give me in RAID 1?
With two 24 TB drives, the reported Ness1300 configuration provides up to 48 TB of raw drive capacity. In RAID 1, one drive mirrors the other, so the pair provides 24 TB nominal usable capacity before formatting and differences in how storage units are displayed. RAID 1 is for mirroring, not combining both drives’ capacity into one 48 TB pool.

The report describes two 3.5-inch SATA HDDs for data, each supporting up to 24 TB, plus a separate 240 GB M.2 NVMe SSD for the operating system. The SSD is not part of the two-drive data-capacity calculation.
Does the Newtech Ness1300 have 2.5GbE?
Yes, according to Notebookcheck’s report: the Ness1300 has one 2.5GbE Ethernet port. That is the stated network-link capability, not a measured file-transfer speed; no throughput benchmark was provided.

When will the Ness1300 go on sale, and how much will it cost?
Notebookcheck reported that Newtech planned to start sales in Japan in October 2026. The report did not give a specific sale day, fixed retail price, or global launch details. A model-specific compatible-drive list was also not available, so the stated 24 TB-per-drive limit should not be treated as confirmation that every drive of that capacity is compatible.
Quick Recap
Best Value
- High Speed Data Transmission: The D2-320 hard drive enclosure (a DAS, NOT a NAS) adopts USB 3.2 Gen2 protocol for high-speed data transmission up to 10Gbps. With 2 hard drives in RAID 0, the read/write speed can reach up to 521MB/s (SATA III HDD 8TB x 2). With 2 SSD's in RAID 0, the read speed can reach 1075MB/s (SATA III 1TB SSD x 2)
- Multiple RAID Configurations: The D2-320 is a hardware RAID enclosure and it supports RAID 0, RAID 1, JBOD and SINGLE which can better satisfy various demands of users.
