The “Geralt” Chromebook tablet story led to real Lenovo products: the Chromebook Duet (11-inch, 9th generation) and Duet EDU G2. Geralt was a development board, not a retail tablet, and its prototype screen details were not guaranteed specifications. Lenovo announced the Duet products in October 2024, identifying the consumer model’s platform as MediaTek Kompanio 838.
What was Geralt?
Geralt was a MediaTek MT8188 reference and testing board used during Chromebook development. It was not a finished tablet that shoppers could buy. Chrome Unboxed’s February 22, 2023 report described the chip as having two Cortex-A78 performance cores and six Cortex-A55 efficiency cores, and reported an 11-inch BOE TV110C9M test display with a 5:3 aspect ratio, 2000 × 1200 resolution, and 400-nit brightness. Those were prototype details, not specifications promised for every device derived from Geralt. Chrome Unboxed’s 2023 report
The same report’s expectations about speed, battery life, or larger-screen versions were forecasts, not measured results or confirmed product plans.
Which products came from Geralt?
ChromeOS’s official device reference associates Geralt and the MT8188 with two detachable Lenovo devices: the Chromebook Duet (11-inch, 9th generation) and the Duet EDU G2. Lenovo announced the consumer and education models on October 1, 2024. The retail Duet’s platform is branded MediaTek Kompanio 838, rather than MT8188 in Lenovo’s product specifications.
