The NeoEyes NE101 is a modular, low-power camera platform for scheduled or event-triggered snapshots at remote sites. It combines an ESP32-S3 controller with replaceable camera and communications modules, and is offered in Wi-Fi, LTE Cat.1 and Wi-Fi HaLow configurations. Its maker publishes multi-year battery-life estimates, but those are configuration-dependent claims—not independently verified test results.
What the NeoEyes NE101 is built to do
The NE101 is intended to collect images periodically or when an attached sensor or hardware input triggers a capture. Documented applications include wildlife monitoring, routine remote image collection, asset monitoring, smart agriculture, predictive maintenance and intrusion detection. It is a sensing and capture platform rather than proof that every vision-AI model runs on the camera itself: the ESP32-S3 specification alone does not establish which AI functions run locally. Confirm the firmware and processing setup for a specific deployment.
CamThink describes the design as open and modular, with replaceable camera and communications modules, development resources and printable mounting files. That makes it more suitable for prototyping or configurable monitoring projects than a conventional consumer security camera with a fixed feature set.
How long the NE101 battery lasts
Published runtime figures are vendor estimates tied to particular operating scenarios. They should not be treated as a guaranteed service interval: capture frequency, radio use, trigger activity, battery type and conditions at the installation can affect actual life. No independent battery test is established by the sources cited here.

| Published scenario | Claim | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Wi-Fi, default low-power configuration | More than 3 years | CamThink technical documentation calls this a theoretical value and specifies 10 shots per day. |
| Wildlife monitoring with infrared triggering and Wi-Fi HaLow | More than 2 years | CamThink presents this as a deployment example; runtime depends on that use case. |
| General product launch statement | 2–3 years | Milesight/CamThink’s 2025 launch announcement describes this as battery usage, without the scenario detail given in the Wi-Fi estimate. |
CNX Software lists four AA batteries and standby consumption of no more than 1 W, but its skepticism about the two-year claim is editorial opinion, not a measured battery test. Treat the runtime figures as planning references; for a remote installation, allow for battery checks or replacement based on observed use.
Which connectivity version to choose
The right version depends on what network is available where the camera will be installed, how far it must communicate, and which radio band is permitted locally. CamThink lists standard Wi-Fi, LTE Cat.1 variants and Wi-Fi HaLow variants. Check the exact SKU and local radio requirements before ordering.

| Version | Infrastructure and geography | When it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Wi-Fi | Uses a local Wi-Fi network; no special coverage claim is stated in the cited specifications. | Choose it where the deployment site already has usable Wi-Fi and the camera can connect to that network. |
| LTE Cat.1 | Cellular variant is offered for global markets excluding North America, as well as in a North American variant. | Consider it where cellular service is available but local Wi-Fi is not practical. Verify the regional model and carrier compatibility for the installation. |
| Wi-Fi HaLow, 868 MHz or 915 MHz | Offered in 868 MHz and 915 MHz versions; frequency selection is subject to local radio regulations. CamThink states a maximum communication distance of 1 km for its wildlife-monitoring example. | Consider it for a compatible private HaLow network, especially when the deployment can support the required HaLow infrastructure. The 1 km figure is a vendor claim for that scenario, not a universal range guarantee. |
These are not interchangeable radio options: cellular depends on compatible carrier coverage, Wi-Fi depends on a local network, and HaLow requires compatible equipment and a legally usable band. The cited materials do not establish a universal range comparison across the three.

The NE101 is a plausible fit when a project needs configurable image capture, external triggers or a choice of network connection, and the installer is prepared to select compatible modules and integrate the device. It is less straightforward for someone seeking a fully specified, ready-to-use security camera with independently verified battery performance and a fixed set of AI features. Before deployment, match the radio SKU to local infrastructure, choose the lens for the target distance and field of view, and validate runtime under the actual capture and connectivity schedule.
