Choose Informational for the richest feed, or choose Custom and set Content to Content visible, Content visible on scroll, or Headings only. The former rolling animation may not return; Microsoft Start’s layout can vary by account, region, and rollout.
Restore the MSN feed in current Microsoft Edge
- Open a new tab in Edge by selecting the + button or pressing Ctrl+T on Windows, or Command+T on macOS.
- Select the Settings gear in the upper-right corner of the new-tab page.
- Select Informational to show the richest version of the feed, or select Custom.
- Under Content, select one of these options:
- Content visible — shows the feed immediately.
- Content visible on scroll — shows stories below the initial view.
- Headings only — shows headlines without the full card presentation.
Do not select Content Off if you want the feed. Microsoft documents these content states as Content Off, Content visible on scroll, Headings only, and Content visible. See the Microsoft MSN FAQ and Microsoft’s policy documentation.
Focused mode may only hide the feed
If the new-tab layout is set to Focused, the news feed is hidden from the initial view but remains available when you scroll down, according to Microsoft.
To make the feed more obvious, open the gear and select Informational, or select Custom and set the content to Content visible. Then scroll below the search box and shortcut tiles. A feed that appears only after scrolling is not necessarily turned off.

To remove the feed completely
If you want a blank or uncluttered new-tab page, use the current control:
- Open a new tab.
- Select the Settings gear.
- Select Custom.
- Set Content to Content Off.
Microsoft’s support page capitalizes this option as Content Off; its policy reference uses Content off.
Why “Home page” instructions often do not fix this
Edge treats the browser Home button, startup behavior, and new-tab page as separate settings. Changing one does not automatically change the others.

For the Home button, enable Show home button on the toolbar, then choose New tab page or Enter URL. Entering a website there does not necessarily replace the MSN content on a newly opened tab. Microsoft explains the Home button settings separately from new-tab and startup behavior.

Startup settings can restore the last session, open a new tab, or open a specified list of URLs. They do not control the feed’s visibility. Microsoft distinguishes these settings in its documentation for new-tab location and startup behavior.

The old “Hide Feed” method is outdated
Older Edge versions used a Hide Feed link at the top-right of the default homepage, followed by Page Display Settings. That interface offered Top Sites, A Blank Page, and Top Sites and My Feed.
Microsoft still documents that procedure for older versions of Edge, but it is not the current universal instruction. If you cannot find Hide Feed, use the new-tab gear and the current Focused, Custom, and Content controls instead.
If Content is missing or disabled
On a personal installation, the gear menu should let you change the content state. On a work or school computer, an administrator may have applied the NewTabPageContentEnabled policy, named Allow Microsoft content on the new tab page.
When that policy is disabled, Edge forces the content state to Content off, disables the Content control, and disables the Layout control while setting the layout to Custom. In that situation, changing the layout or signing in again will not restore the feed; the organization’s policy must be changed.

This policy is supported on Windows and macOS beginning with Edge version 91, but not on Android or iOS. Do not edit the registry on a managed computer unless you are the administrator responsible for it.
Use a blank new-tab page instead
If your goal is to eliminate MSN rather than restore it, an administrator can use the NewTabPageLocation policy. Its registry value is a REG_SZ under SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge and contains a URL. Microsoft specifically instructs administrators to use about:blank, not about://blank. This is an administrative policy approach, not a command ordinary users need to run.
The feed may be restored but look different
Restoring Content visible does not guarantee that Edge will bring back the exact former rolling-news animation. Microsoft Start can appear as static cards, vertical headlines, topic tabs, or another layout depending on the account, region, and rollout.
Distinguish between these situations:
- No stories anywhere: check the gear, content state, account, and possible organization policy.
- Stories are present but no longer auto-scrolling: the feed may be working; Microsoft may have changed the layout for your account or market.
Check account, language, and region settings
Content shown through the Edge new-tab page uses the Microsoft account signed in to the Edge profile. To sign out, open Edge’s Settings, go to Profile, and manage the account there. Microsoft also identifies InPrivate mode as an option to prevent account-based preference tracking for that session.

Regional availability can affect what appears. Microsoft says MSN displays only Chinese content when viewed in China under local regulations, and local news is not available in every country or area. On the new-tab page, open the top-right Settings control and choose Select Language and Content. If available, review the page’s Edition selector as well.

The supported consumer fix requires no Command Prompt, PowerShell command, or edge:// command. Use the new-tab gear unless the browser is managed by an organization.

Why did my MSN news feed disappear from Edge?
The new-tab page may be using Focused mode, Content may be set to Content off, the feed may appear only after scrolling, or an organization may have disabled Microsoft content with policy. A changed Microsoft Start layout can also make the former rolling presentation look missing.
How do I turn MSN news back on in Microsoft Edge?
Open a new tab, select the Settings gear, choose Informational, or choose Custom and set Content to Content visible. The control is on the new-tab page, not normally in Edge’s general Settings page.
Does Focused mode delete the MSN feed?
No. Microsoft says Focused hides the feed from the initial view while leaving it available when you scroll down.

Why can’t I find Hide Feed in Edge?
Hide Feed belongs to an older Edge interface. Current Edge uses Focused, Custom, and Content options from the new-tab page’s Settings gear.
Why does changing my Edge home page not restore MSN news?
The Home button, startup page, and new-tab page are separate settings. Changing the Home button URL does not necessarily change a newly opened tab.
Can a work administrator prevent me from restoring the feed?
Yes. If the NewTabPageContentEnabled policy is disabled, Edge forces Microsoft content off and disables the Content and Layout controls. Only the administrator can change that policy.
The Bottom Line
For the current Edge interface, open a new tab, select the upper-right gear, and choose Informational or Custom → Content visible. If the feed is only below the fold, check Focused mode. If the controls are disabled, an organization policy is the likely cause. If stories return without the old scrolling animation, that may be a Microsoft Start layout change rather than a broken feed.
