The project listed bug fixes, kernel updates, and application updates; existing MX-21 users could update through the regular package channel without reinstalling. MX 21 is now end of life, however, so MX 21.3 is best treated as an archived release—not a current choice for a typical new installation.
What changed in MX Linux 21.3?
MX Linux announced 21.3 as a refresh of the MX-21 series, not as a new major release. Its stated scope was accumulated bug fixes, kernels, and application updates. The announcement did not characterize it as a new Debian-based series or provide a feature-by-feature change list in the available release details. MX Linux’s January 15, 2023 announcement described the release as available for use.
If you were already running MX-21, the project said updated packages were available through the normal update channel and that reinstalling was unnecessary. That guidance applied to existing MX-21 installations at the time of the release; it does not change the distribution’s later end-of-life status.
Is MX Linux 21.3 still supported?
No. On August 31, 2026, MX Linux announced that MX 21, based on Debian 11 Bullseye, had reached end of life. An old ISO may still be downloadable, but availability of an archived file is not evidence of ongoing support. For a normal new installation, choose a currently supported release rather than MX 21.3.

MX Linux announced MX 25.3 “Infinity” on September 20, 2026. Check the project’s official download page for the current release and its available images. MX Linux’s official blog archive contains the project’s release and end-of-life announcements.
Where can you find the archived MX 21.3 image?
SourceForge lists an archived MX-21.3 Xfce 64-bit image named MX-21.3_x64.iso. The listing is useful for historical evaluation or a specific compatibility need, but it should not be mistaken for the current recommended download. The listing publishes this SHA-256 checksum for that file:

What should you prepare for installation?
The MX Linux manual describes the distribution as an ISO image that can be used to create installation media. Its general recommendations include a modern 64-bit Intel or AMD processor, 2 GB of RAM or more, and at least 20 GB of free disk space. For a LiveUSB setup with persistence, it specifies 8 GB of free space. These are general manual recommendations, not guarantees that every MX edition or use case has identical requirements. Consult the MX Linux manuals for guidance.
For current installation steps, use the documentation linked from the official MX Linux site and the instructions for the release you select. The archived listing cited above establishes an Xfce 64-bit ISO; it does not establish that all MX 21.3 desktop variants remain available from official mirrors.
