In HotHardware’s March 6, 2025 review, the MSI GeForce RTX 5070 Gaming Trio OC’s results vary by benchmark: it edges past the RTX 4070 Ti in 3DMark Speed Way, trails it in Steel Nomad, and trades places with the Radeon RX 9070 in Superposition VR Future. AMD’s latest Radeon cards lead in the review’s VRMark Blue Room results. The page provides comparative summaries, but its accessible text does not give exact chart scores or frame rates.
What this review page covers
This is a summary of Page 3 of HotHardware’s review, published March 6, 2025. It focuses on four synthetic graphics and VR workloads: 3DMark Speed Way, 3DMark Steel Nomad, Unigine Superposition VR Future, and UL VRMark Blue Room. The observations reflect HotHardware’s test setup at that time, not a new or independent test. Read the benchmark page.
How the cards compare by benchmark
| Benchmark | Workload described by HotHardware | Reported comparison |
|---|---|---|
| 3DMark Speed Way | DirectX 12 Ultimate; default benchmark options; ray-tracing test | The MSI Gaming Trio’s higher clocks let it pass the RTX 4070 Ti in this review. AMD’s latest similarly priced cards finished well ahead. |
| 3DMark Steel Nomad | Non-ray-traced DirectX 12 workload | The MSI card fell behind the RTX 4070 Ti but was a few percentage points ahead of the RTX 5070 Founders Edition. Radeon cards led again. |
| Unigine Superposition VR Future | VR benchmark | The MSI card and Radeon RX 9070 traded places in the reported results. |
| UL VRMark Blue Room | VRMark’s most demanding test; a headset does not need to be connected | AMD’s latest Radeon cards extended their lead over the MSI card. |
These are qualitative comparisons from the review’s written summaries. The accessible page text does not state exact scores or frame rates, so the results do not support a numerical ranking gap or a direct estimate of in-game performance.
Why the RTX 5070’s position changes
The Gaming Trio is an overclocked board-partner model, and its clock advantage matters in the Speed Way comparison. Reviewer Marco Chiappetta wrote: “In 3DMark Speedway, the MSI GeForce RTX 5070 Gaming Trio’s slightly higher clocks allow it to overtake the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, whereas the Founders Edition could not.” That statement describes this review’s test; it is not a guarantee that every Gaming Trio sample will beat every RTX 4070 Ti in other systems or workloads.
#1 Best Overall
- Powered by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4 OC mode: 2640MHz/Default mode: 2610MHz (Boost Clock)
- Military-grade components deliver rock-solid power and longer lifespan for ultimate durability
- Protective PCB coating helps protect against short circuits caused by moisture, dust, or debris
- 3.125-slot design with massive fin array optimized for airflow from three Axial-tech fans
- Phase-change GPU thermal pad helps ensure optimal thermal performance and longevity, outlasting traditional thermal paste for graphics cards under heavy loads
Steel Nomad shows why one benchmark should not stand in for overall performance: the MSI model’s relative position differs from Speed Way, and the two tests exercise different graphics workloads. The two VR tests also do not yield a single uniform result: the MSI card trades places with the RX 9070 in Superposition VR Future, while Radeon cards pull further ahead in VRMark Blue Room.
What the page can—and cannot—tell you
- Useful: It shows that the MSI model’s clock advantage can affect comparisons with both the RTX 5070 Founders Edition and RTX 4070 Ti, and that its relative standing depends on the test.
- Useful: In these specific results, HotHardware reports strong performance from AMD’s latest Radeon cards, including the RX 9070 in one VR test.
- Not established in accessible text: Exact benchmark scores, frame rates, percentage gaps beyond the Steel Nomad description, or results from other test systems.
- Not established by synthetic results alone: How the cards compare across a particular game library, resolution, settings, driver version, or current price.
Use this page as a snapshot of four synthetic and VR workloads in one March 2025 review, not as a comprehensive current buying verdict. For game-specific performance, seek results for the titles and settings you use.

Check the exact Gaming Trio OC model before buying
MSI’s official product listing identifies the card as the GeForce RTX 5070 12G GAMING TRIO OC, model G5070-12GTC. The review calls it the Gaming Trio. MSI lists a 2,610 MHz boost clock, with a 2,625 MHz Extreme Performance setting available through MSI Center, 6,144 CUDA cores, 12 GB of GDDR7 on a 192-bit bus, and 28 Gbps memory speed. Its interface is PCI Express Gen 5. See MSI’s official specifications for the model details.
Fit, power, and connections
- Case clearance: MSI lists dimensions of 338 × 140 × 50 mm; HotHardware describes the card as 2.7 slots wide. Check both available length and expansion-slot clearance in your case.
- Power: MSI lists 250 W power consumption, one 16-pin power connector, and a recommended 650 W PSU. Whether your existing PSU is suitable depends on the full system and its available compatible connector; these specifications alone do not mean every owner needs a replacement.
- Outputs: The card has three DisplayPort 2.1b outputs and one HDMI 2.1b output.
- Included support: HotHardware reports a three-fan cooler, support stand, and power adapter in the package. A separate GPU support stand is therefore not automatically required.
MSI lists the card’s weight as 1,187 g; HotHardware describes it as over 2.5 lb. Confirm the exact product listing and included accessories for the unit sold in your region.
