Both the MSI Claw 8 AI+ and Claw 7 AI+ are Windows 11 Home gaming handhelds that MSI markets as Copilot+ PCs. The Claw 8 AI+ is the larger-screen option, while the Claw 7 AI+ has a 7-inch, 120Hz display and an additional Thunderbolt 4 port. MSI advertises higher gaming frame rates at matched power settings, but those figures are manufacturer claims—not independent test results. The right choice depends on the exact regional configuration, price, weight, battery, and the screen size you prefer.
What are the MSI Claw 8 AI+ and Claw 7 AI+?
They are handheld PCs running Windows 11 Home, designed to play PC games while also supporting ordinary Windows applications. MSI labels the Claw 8 AI+ a Copilot+ PC and describes the Claw 7 AI+ as a Windows handheld with Copilot and mini-PC use. MSI’s product pages and launch announcement also describe support for Windows games and Android titles through MSI App Player.
Copilot+ branding does not make either device a dedicated console: they are Windows PCs in a handheld form factor. Game compatibility, performance, and the experience of using Windows on a small touchscreen remain relevant considerations when choosing one.

How strong is the gaming performance?
MSI says the Claw 8 AI+ and Claw 7 AI+ can deliver 113% higher peak FPS and 20% higher average FPS than competitors under identical power conditions, and emphasizes operation at 17W for longer battery life. These are MSI’s claims in its CES 2025 launch announcement, not independently verified results. Treat them as vendor comparisons rather than a guarantee of the frame rate you will see in a particular game.
Actual results depend on the game, graphics settings, resolution, power mode, and the specific hardware configuration. A Windows Central review of one Claw 8 AI+ configuration described its gaming performance as among the strongest the reviewer had seen in handheld PCs, but that assessment reflects that device and the publication’s review methodology—not a head-to-head result for every SKU.

Which model should you choose?
Choose the Claw 8 AI+ if you prefer a larger screen
The Claw 8 is the more natural fit if a larger display matters for handheld play or using Windows apps. Check the exact listing for its processor, display resolution and refresh features, memory, storage, battery capacity, weight, and included charger; configurations are not interchangeable.
Choose the Claw 7 AI+ if you want the 7-inch format and its highlighted port
MSI specifies a 7-inch, 120Hz display for the Claw 7 AI+ and calls out an additional Thunderbolt 4 port. Consider it if that screen size and connectivity suit your setup, but compare the exact model’s other specifications and price rather than assuming they match the Claw 8.

- Battery capacity and independent endurance results for the same configuration, if available.

Can these handhelds play Android games or work as compact PCs?
MSI says its App Player supports Windows and Android titles, so Android gaming is part of the manufacturer’s stated use case. The launch announcement does not establish that every Android game will work identically or that every title is optimized for handheld controls; check compatibility and control support for games that matter to you.
