The MOVA LiDAX Pro 800 is a wire-free robotic mower sized for lawns up to 0.2 acre, but one Gizmodo reviewer reported troubling collisions with his leg, a garden bed and a ceramic pot. His tests do not establish how often this happens across units, yet they raise a practical safety question for anyone with people, pets or objects sharing the lawn. The mower trimmed mapped areas evenly in his test, but struggled with uneven ground and raised transitions.
What the LiDAX Pro 800 is designed to do
MOVA lists the LiDAX Pro 800 for a maximum mapped area of 0.2 acre. Compare that figure with the lawn you actually want it to mow, excluding the house, driveway, garden beds and other non-mowable parts of the property. The limit is a manufacturer specification, not a promise that every yard of that size will be handled equally well.
| Specification | MOVA listing |

| Navigation | UltraView 2.0: 360-degree 3D LiDAR plus AI vision |
| Drive | Rear-wheel drive |
| Cutting width | 7.9 inches |
| Cutting height | 1.2–3.9 inches |
| Battery and charge | 4 Ah battery; 60-minute charging time |

| Maximum climbing ability | 45% (24 degrees) |
| Dimensions and weight | 26.2 × 17.5 × 10.7 inches; 28.6 pounds |
These are MOVA’s published figures, not independent measurements. The company also advertises detection and avoidance of more than 300 obstacle types, U-shaped path planning, multiple mowing modes, multiple zones, dual-map management, night mowing and an edge-retention distance below 4.3 inches. Those are feature claims; Davis’s obstacle tests, discussed below, had mixed results. See MOVA’s LiDAX Pro 800 specifications.
What happened in the reviewer’s obstacle tests
In a Gizmodo review published September 28, 2026, Wes Davis said the mower pushed into his leg on the second day of testing instead of stopping and routing around him. He also used a roughly leg-sized log as a rough lift test: the mower climbed it, and its blade deactivated when the lift sensor triggered. Davis cautioned that this did not prove a child’s foot would be protected.

It also handles uneven terrain, challenging weather, and maintains lawn-friendly operation.
With object detection disabled, Davis said the mower repeatedly drove into a raised garden bed and stopped only after a vine wrapped around it and lifted a rear wheel. With recognition enabled, it knocked over a small ceramic pot and ran into it again; after the pot’s taper briefly lifted the mower, it resumed mowing when it landed. In the same area, it consistently avoided a Bluey bouncy ball. These are observations from one review unit and a handful of scenarios, not a measured detection rate or evidence of a general failure rate.
MOVA’s PR representative told Davis that “The LiDAX Pro 800 uses several layers of obstacle protection,” identifying AI vision, LiDAR avoidance and a bumper sensor. The representative said the reported issues were not experienced “on a widespread basis” and that MOVA was investigating the review unit. Davis also reported that MOVA planned an October update to improve object detection. The available account does not establish that the update was released or that it resolved the behavior.

How it mapped and mowed
Davis set up the dock by plugging it in and staking it down, then switched on the mower with its security key and power button. He added the mower in the MOVAhome app by scanning a QR code. Because it has no onboard display, he used the app to drive the mower around each perimeter and manually map the boundaries. The mapping took about an hour while he documented the process; he estimated roughly 30 minutes without that overhead. Those are his setup times, not guaranteed durations.
MOVA’s product listing also describes “Remote Control + AI-Assisted Auto Mapping.” Davis’s account establishes the manual mapping workflow he used, not that he tested or verified automatic mapping. The product listing mentions dual maps and multiple zones, but his review does not provide a comparative test of those functions.

Once mapped, LiDAR navigation kept the mower on task in assigned areas, and Davis reported an even trim in his side yard. He could change cutting height and mowing direction in the app, as well as adjust edge-obstacle behavior. The blades do not shift sideways, so the mower leaves more distance from structures than designs with side-shifting blades.
Where the reviewer found limitations
Davis said the mower struggled with hard transitions such as raised pavers and spun its wheels on uneven ground. He criticized the front caster wheels and rear-wheel traction. MOVA specifies a maximum climbing ability of 45% (24 degrees), but a slope rating does not show how a mower will cope with loose footing, abrupt lips or irregular surfaces. Check the route between lawn sections as carefully as the lawn’s steepest grade.

- PRECISION CUTTING.: The robo lawn mower ensures an even trim every time; take advantage of a remote lawn mower robot that navigates effortlessly around obstacles and maintains stable performance even on moderate slopes (up to 25–30% incline depending on conditions).
- ACTIVATION CODE: Anti-Theft Protection, for security and proper setup, each mower requires a one-time activation code (provided after purchase) before first use.
- GPS MAPPING: Advanced navigation system creates efficient mowing patterns and ensures complete lawn coverage with smart route planning, even on complex terrains with varying elevations.
- SELF-CHARGING: Automatically returns to charging station when battery is low and resumes work after charging is complete. With 4 hours runs BESTMOW works on set plan in wet and dry weather.
- QUIET OPERATION: Ultra-quiet motor design allows for day or night mowing without disturbing neighbors or household members.
For scale, Davis reported mowing a 1,500-square-foot area in about two hours, with about 19% battery remaining. That is one yard observation, not a coverage guarantee. He recommended the usual robotic-mower cadence of frequent, light cuts—every couple of days rather than weekly or biweekly—and described the mower as quiet enough for nighttime operation.

The LiDAX Pro 800 may suit a compact, clearly mapped lawn where its cutting area, edge clearance and terrain match the yard. Davis’s report makes obstacle handling the key qualification: buyers should not treat an advertised obstacle count as proof of safe behavior around every person, pet, toy or garden object. No population-level safety or performance statistic is established by the cited review.

- Inspect transitions and terrain: Look for raised pavers, uneven patches and slopes along the entire route, not just in the main lawn.
- Plan around people and objects: Consider whether the mowing area can be kept clear and whether children, pets, pots, beds and toys may be present.
- Check edge expectations: Its cutting system may leave a gap near structures; consider whether you are willing to trim those edges separately.
- Confirm mapping needs: Davis manually mapped his boundaries. If you need automatic mapping, verify the feature and workflow for your intended configuration rather than assuming it matches his test.
- Check ongoing blade supply: The box includes nine spare blades and nine screws, but confirm the compatible replacement part and its availability before relying on future resupply.
Care, storage and practical setup notes
MOVA’s operating guidance for the LiDAX Pro 800 says not to mow frost-covered lawns and recommends operating above 6°C. For extended non-use, disconnect and store the mower in a dry, cool place at 0–25°C. MOVA permits rinsing with a hose but says not to use a high-pressure washer. It also warns that trampoline crossbars may trap the mower and recommends marking that area as a no-go zone. Read MOVA’s operating and storage guidance.
The official package list includes the robot, charging station, power supply, manual, quick-start guide, cleaning brush, and nine spare blades with nine screws. MOVA Canada lists a Pro 800 manual on its manual downloads page.
Price and availability
When the US product page was accessed on October 4, 2026, it displayed $849 beside a crossed-out $1,099, while also retaining an Easter Egg Hunt promotion ending April 26. That mismatch makes the displayed offer unreliable as a current price. Check the live listing and terms before making a purchase decision; the quoted display should not be treated as a verified October offer.
