Motorola does not publish one update-support period that applies to every phone. To find how long your Motorola will receive Android upgrades and security patches, select the exact model on Motorola’s software-update page for the country where you use it. The listing shows the planned upgrade path and, when provided, the planned security-update end date.
Android upgrades and security updates are different
An Android OS upgrade moves an eligible phone to a newer Android version. A security update delivers security fixes for the phone’s current Android version. Motorola’s product listings may show both the next planned Android version and the month and year security updates are scheduled to stop.
Check both fields: a phone’s planned OS upgrade path does not, by itself, tell you how long its security patches will continue.
How to check your Motorola’s support schedule

Open Motorola’s Security Updates page for the country where you bought or use the phone. Choose the corresponding local Motorola support site if you are in another country.

Use the product selector to find the exact phone model or variant. A family name alone may not identify the right schedule. Motorola says devices not listed on the page will no longer receive security or OS updates.

Review the planned Android upgrade and security-update information for that listing. If a security end month or patch cadence is shown, treat it as applying to that specific listing and region.

Check your phone’s current Android version at Settings > About phone > Device details > Android version. To check for an available update, use Settings > System updates > Check for updates. Menu names can vary by model and software version.

Motorola’s Software Upgrade page and user guide direct owners to the country-specific software-update site for eligibility information. If the site does not give a release date, Motorola says it does not yet know the date.

Why your phone may receive an update later than expected
Motorola describes the schedules as current plans for potential updates, not a promise to deliver them. Its US security-update page states: “The information communicated herein is not a commitment or an obligation of Motorola Mobility.” Motorola also reserves the right to change timing or content.

Testing and certification: Motorola says it may need to test many software versions across models, regions, and channels. Carrier and partner certification, testing, or change requests can affect timing, so phones in the same region may not receive an update simultaneously.

Other releases and dependencies: Motorola says security-patch timing can depend on third parties, and maintenance releases or OS upgrades may delay patches.

Missing date: Motorola’s moto g 2026 user guide says, “If the website doesn’t have a update release date for your phone, then we don’t know the release date yet.”
What to compare when choosing between Motorola phones
For two specific phones, compare their exact regional listings rather than assuming all models in a family follow the same policy. Check:
