Morse Micro’s MM8108 is a second-generation, single-chip Wi-Fi HaLow solution for developers building sub-1 GHz wireless products. Announced at CES on January 8, 2025, it moved from sampling to mass production and general availability in a September 23, 2025 update. Developers can evaluate it with kits built around a Raspberry Pi, an STM32 microcontroller, or a USB dongle and router, depending on their host platform and prototype.
What is the MM8108?
The MM8108 is a system-on-chip (SoC) for Wi-Fi HaLow, the name commonly used for Wi-Fi based on IEEE 802.11ah. Unlike the familiar 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz Wi-Fi bands, HaLow operates below 1 GHz. That makes it suited to connected devices that need IP networking over longer links or through building materials, though actual results depend on radio conditions, antennas, configuration, and local rules.
Morse Micro describes the MM8108 as a global single-chip SKU configurable for country settings. That does not by itself establish that a particular configuration is legal to operate everywhere; deployment must follow the radio requirements for its region.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Package: 5 × 5 mm FC-BGA.
- Channel widths: 1, 2, 4, and 8 MHz.
- Host interfaces: USB 2.0, SDIO 2.0, and SPI.
- Security: WPA2 and WPA3 support.
- Integrated radio features: power amplifier, low-noise amplifier, and power-management features.
- Peak PHY rate: 43.33 Mbps at 8 MHz using MCS 9 and 256-QAM.
The 43.33 Mbps figure is a maximum physical-layer (PHY) rate, not a promise of application throughput. Real data speeds depend on the link, protocol overhead, interference, and implementation.
Morse Micro also advertises up to 10 times the range of conventional Wi-Fi, two to five times better penetration through walls or floors, and up to three times the transmit-power efficiency of the next-best Wi-Fi SoC. These are the manufacturer’s comparisons; the product materials cited here do not provide independent validation or enough test conditions to treat them as guaranteed range or battery-life outcomes. From launch announcement to general availability
The two announcements mark different stages, rather than conflicting availability claims:
- January 8, 2025: At CES, Morse Micro announced the MM8108 and described the MM8108-RD09 USB dongle reference design and MM8108-EKH19 evaluation kit as available for sampling and evaluation. Morse Micro’s CES announcement framed the products for developers exploring HaLow integrations.
- September 23, 2025: Morse Micro announced mass production and general availability, and listed three evaluation-kit configurations: EKH01, EKH05, and EKH19. The company’s availability announcement also named module options from Morse Micro, AzureWave, and Vantron.
In that September announcement, Morse Micro said its MM8108-MF15457 reference module was available to the general public through Mouser. It described AzureWave’s AW-HM677 as intended for high-volume customers and Vantron’s VT-MOB-AH-8108 for low- to mid-volume requirements. Those are company-reported availability details from September 2025; check current distributor listings and regional eligibility before planning a purchase.

Which MM8108 evaluation kit fits your project?
The kits combine the HaLow radio with different host platforms. Choose based on the software environment and prototype you need, not just the chip’s headline data rate.
| Kit or design | Host or format | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| EKH01-01 | Raspberry Pi 4B; Linux-based | Evaluating HaLow access-point, station, or router roles on a Linux host. |
| EKH05-01 | STM32U585; FreeRTOS | Microcontroller projects, including battery-powered IoT and industrial monitoring prototypes. |
| EKH19-01 / MM8108-EKH19 | USB-A dongle with a GL.iNet GL-MT3000 router in the September 2025 kit description | USB-based prototyping and system integration. |
| MM8108-RD09 | Enclosed USB dongle reference design | Early integration into existing routers or gateways; Morse Micro describes it as including schematics and software. |
| EKH01-01-CAM | Raspberry Pi 4B with Raspberry Pi Camera v2 | Camera and video-use-case evaluation. |
The official development-resource listing positions EKH19-01 for system integrators and USB-based prototyping, EKH05-01 for battery-powered IoT development, and EKH01-01 for turning a Raspberry Pi 4B into a HaLow access point, station, or router. It lists the camera variant for video evaluation and purchase routes through Mouser and DigiKey. Kit stock, pricing, and regional availability can change, so confirm those details with the seller. Morse Micro’s development resources also list EKH08-01 as coming soon; that listing does not establish it as currently purchasable.

An evaluation kit is for development and integration; it is not the same product as the MM8108 chip, a radio module, or a ready-made network device. For a more finished option, HaLowLink 2 is an MM8108-based router, access point, and extender. Its product page lists two Gigabit Ethernet ports, USB-C, OpenWrt 23.05, a 2.4 GHz MT7603E radio, and an onboard AzureWave AW-HM677 module. It lists versions for the USA, Canada, Australia, the UK, Europe, and Japan, and says paired units can extend 2.4 GHz hotspots using HaLow backhaul. Check the regional version and current firmware details on the HaLowLink 2 product page before deployment.

What to check before selecting a platform
- Host and software: Decide whether your prototype belongs on Linux, FreeRTOS, or a USB-connected host.
- Network role: Confirm whether you need to test an access point, station, router, or device-to-gateway integration.
- Link requirements: Match channel width and supported modes to your throughput, range, and power goals. Treat peak PHY rate as distinct from usable application speed.
- Regulatory region: Verify the configured country settings, permitted spectrum, and applicable rules for the place you will operate the equipment.
- Product stage: Use a development kit or reference design for integration work; consider a finished router only if it meets your deployment and firmware requirements.
- Availability: Check current listings for the exact kit or module variant, stock, pricing, and regional eligibility.
