Monster Hunter Stories 3 has three main editions: Standard includes the base game, Deluxe adds the Deluxe Kit (including Rudy’s side story and a set of cosmetics), and Premium Deluxe adds a second cosmetic collection called the DLC Pack. Premium Deluxe is not documented as including every separate add-on, so check the specific items and your existing entitlements before upgrading. Rudy’s story is already available, and Standard owners can buy it separately.

What does each Monster Hunter Stories 3 edition include?
Standard is the base-game purchase. Deluxe bundles the Deluxe Kit with the game, while Premium Deluxe bundles both the Deluxe Kit and the separate DLC Pack. The practical difference between the two higher editions is therefore an extra set of cosmetics—not another named story chapter.

Standard includes the base game and does not itself grant the Deluxe Kit or Premium Deluxe DLC Pack. It suits someone who wants the game without those bundled extras, or who wants to select add-ons individually later. “Standard” does not mean that all separately listed downloadable content is included.

Deluxe Edition
Deluxe includes the base game plus the Deluxe Kit. Capcom identifies that kit as containing Additional Side Story: Rudy and the Special Outfits Set. That makes Deluxe the edition that bundles Rudy’s side story; Premium Deluxe contains it too because it includes the Deluxe Kit.
Premium Deluxe Edition
Premium Deluxe includes the base game, the Deluxe Kit, and the DLC Pack. The pack is a second cosmetic collection. Steam itemizes it as 16 listed items, but that count refers to pack components, not 16 story chapters. The included content is the specifically named pack; it should not be read as a promise that every present or future add-on is included.
What is in the Deluxe Kit and DLC Pack?
The Deluxe Kit and DLC Pack contain different cosmetics. If you are deciding whether the Premium upgrade is worth the additional cost, compare the DLC Pack’s characters, hairstyles, and Rudy outfits with the items you would actually use rather than assuming the upgrade adds more story.

- Additional Side Story: Rudy. A separate side story centered on Rudy.
- Layered armor: Eleanor Royal Flair, Gaul Protective Wings, Kora Armored Beauty, Ogden Eager Explorer, and Thea Sky Blue Coat.
- Player-character Monster Hair: Arkveld Mane, Lunagaron Fade, and Mizutsune Braid.
- Rudy outfits: Regal Aspect, Smooth Sailing, Velvety Fur, and Aristocratic Air.
DLC Pack: Premium Deluxe’s additional cosmetics
- Layered armor: Eleanor Foreign Dancer, Gaul Fur-tive Five Leader, Kora Attendant’s Attire, Ogden Summertime Ogden, and Thea Canyne Ward.
- Monster Hair: Malzeno Bob, Hellfire Tail, Espinas Spikes, Garangolm Nest, Octolocks Princess, and Goss Hairagy.
- Rudy outfits: Rudy’s Arkbelt, Scintillating Armor, Relaxed-acabra, Shogun Rudy, and Rudyzeno.
These lists are useful when comparing bundles with separate store listings: the Deluxe Kit is not the same thing as the DLC Pack. If only one cosmetic or story item matters to you, check whether it has its own listing on your platform before paying for a larger bundle.
Is Rudy’s DLC out, and does Deluxe include it?
Yes. Additional Side Story: Rudy is available; it is not an upcoming autumn 2026 release. Nintendo’s US Switch 2 listing dates its release June 25, 2026, and Capcom later confirmed availability. Capcom Town Store still shows an older planned-autumn statement, which is stale; rely on the newer release information instead.

Rudy’s story is included with Deluxe Edition, Premium Deluxe Edition, and the separately sold Deluxe Kit. Nintendo also lists it separately for Switch 2. Its listing says the full game is required and that the story becomes available after playing through the first half of the game. Owning the DLC therefore does not replace the base-game license or make the side story immediately accessible from the start.
If the story does not appear for an owner of a qualifying edition, check installation and entitlement before buying anything again. Capcom’s support instructions say Switch 2 and Steam players should update the game and restart if needed; PS5 players should find the add-on displayed as free; Xbox players should check Manage Game & Add-ons. A missing installed add-on is not, by itself, evidence that Rudy must be purchased a second time.
Can I buy Rudy separately if I own Standard?
Yes. Standard owners do not have to buy Deluxe just to get Rudy: the side story has a separate listing, and the Deluxe Kit is another separate option that bundles the story with the Special Outfits Set. Choose based on the content you want and compare prices on the same platform.
- Want only the story? Check the separate Rudy listing for your platform. The full base game is still required.
- Want Rudy plus the Deluxe Kit cosmetics? Compare the Deluxe Kit’s current price with Rudy and the Special Outfits Set as separate purchases, where those separate listings are offered.
- Want the DLC Pack cosmetics too? Compare the bundle or pack listing against the specific items you value. Premium Deluxe includes the named DLC Pack as well as the Deluxe Kit.
- Already own any of these items? Review your library, add-on management screen, or store account entitlements before checkout. Avoid rebuying an add-on that your edition already grants.
- Compare like with like. Use the same platform and region, and compare current prices rather than a temporary sale on one storefront with a regular price on another.
For reference, the available data lists Steam US prices of $24.99 for the Deluxe Kit, $9.99 for Rudy’s story, $19.99 for the Special Outfits Set, and $19.99 for the DLC Pack. These are volatile storefront prices from 2026, not guaranteed current offers. Because standalone listings and bundle prices may differ by platform, use the relevant store page to make the actual decision.
How much do the editions and separate add-ons cost?
The Steam storefront’s US regular-price figures in the 2026 available data were $69.99 for Standard, $89.99 for Deluxe, and $99.99 for Premium Deluxe. On that storefront, Deluxe was $20 above Standard and Premium Deluxe was another $10 above Deluxe at regular prices. Discounts, regional pricing, taxes, and console storefront prices can change the comparison.

If you want only the base game, the Standard price is the relevant starting point. If you want Rudy alone, compare that add-on’s current price with the cost of upgrading to a bundle that includes cosmetics you may not want. If you are moving from Deluxe to Premium Deluxe, the documented addition is the DLC Pack.
Does Premium Deluxe include all DLC?
No such blanket promise is supported by the listed contents. Premium Deluxe includes the named DLC Pack, along with the Deluxe Kit. Steam separately lists other items, including individual cosmetics and free accessories, so “Premium Deluxe” should not be treated as “every add-on now or later.”
Before purchasing, check the itemized description for the exact platform edition or pack. In particular, verify whether a specific cosmetic is part of the Deluxe Kit, the DLC Pack, a separate listing, or a free accessory. A pack’s item count is not a count of story chapters, and content listed separately should not be assumed to be bundled merely because it is downloadable content.
Is the preorder outfit still included?
The Eleanor Skyscale Queen layered armor was advertised as a preorder bonus. The preorder period has passed, so a later purchase should not assume that the outfit comes with Standard, Deluxe, or Premium Deluxe automatically.

Check the specific retailer’s current listing and any included code details if you are buying a copy that may carry a bonus entitlement. The existence of a past preorder offer is not proof that a new copy includes the bonus, and the edition names in the current comparison do not identify it as a standard inclusion.
Is the physical Switch 2 copy on the cartridge?
The documented physical Switch 2 Standard Edition is a game-key card: the card initiates a download rather than containing the complete game data. A boxed copy is therefore not the same as a full game installation stored on the card. Check the box and retailer listing for the precise format, and make sure you can download the game.
A retail guide documents physical Standard Edition copies for PS5, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X. That supports looking for a platform-specific boxed Standard copy, but does not establish current stock or a boxed Deluxe Edition. Do not assume that digital Deluxe extras are inside a Standard box; verify any separate code or inclusion printed on the retailer’s product page.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which platform and region should I buy for?
Match downloadable content to the platform and region of the base game. Capcom warns that DLC, accounts, software, and hardware from different regions may not operate normally together. Buying the right-looking add-on from a different regional storefront can leave you with content that does not work with your game license.

Capcom also says crossplay and cross-platform saves are not supported. Its support FAQ states: “Note: Crossplay and cross-saves between platforms are not supported.” That means edition choice should be made with the platform you intend to play on; buying the game or an add-on on one platform does not establish that you can use it on another. Capcom describes the basic game content as similar across platforms, but that is not the same as shared ownership or save transfer.

For PC availability, keep platform dates distinct. Steam labels its PC release March 12, 2026, while Nintendo’s US Switch 2 listing gives March 13, 2026. Xbox announced Xbox-on-PC availability and Xbox Play Anywhere for November 18, 2026; at the Oct. 29 research cut-off, that date was still in the future. The announced benefit should not be generalized to Steam, PS5, or Switch 2.
What should I check before checkout?
- Edition contents: Standard is the base game; Deluxe adds the Deluxe Kit; Premium Deluxe adds the DLC Pack as well.
- Existing ownership: Confirm whether your account already has Rudy, the Deluxe Kit, or the DLC Pack.
- Platform: Buy the game and add-ons for the platform where you plan to play.
- Region: Check that the store region and DLC match the base-game purchase.
- Price date: Treat the listed Steam prices as a 2026 snapshot and check live storefront prices before buying.
- Physical format: Switch 2 Standard uses a game-key card that triggers a download.
- Bonus claims: Do not assume the former preorder armor is included unless the current listing or code confirms it.
Switch 2 amiibo support is a separate accessory feature, not an edition inclusion. Do not count amiibo or other external accessories as content granted by Standard, Deluxe, or Premium Deluxe.
How should I choose?
Choose Standard if the base game is all you want. Choose Deluxe if you want Rudy’s side story and the Deluxe Kit cosmetics bundled with the game. Choose Premium Deluxe if you also want the additional cosmetic items in its DLC Pack. If you already own Standard, compare the separate Rudy story, Deluxe Kit, and DLC Pack against your library and current same-platform prices instead of automatically repurchasing the game in a higher edition.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long do I have to play before Rudy’s story unlocks?
Nintendo’s listing says the full game is required and that the side story becomes available after you play through the first half. Owning the add-on does not make it available at the beginning.
Can I transfer my save from Switch 2 to PS5 or PC?
Capcom says cross-platform saves are not supported. Plan to continue on the platform where your save is stored rather than assuming an edition upgrade or DLC purchase will move progress.
Does Monster Hunter Stories 3 support crossplay between platforms?
No. Capcom’s all-platform support FAQ says crossplay is not supported, so players should not assume they can join one another across platform ecosystems.
Can I use DLC bought in a different region from my game?
Capcom warns that content, accounts, software, and hardware from different regions may not operate normally together. Buy add-ons from the storefront region that matches the base-game purchase.
