The MONOKEI Standard is a prebuilt tenkeyless keyboard for people who want a compact, wireless board with hot-swappable switches and a restrained look. Its practical strengths are Bluetooth pairing for up to four devices, several Cherry MX switch choices, and a sound-dampened build. The compromises matter: it has no backlighting or VIA support, its ABS case feels light according to an independent reviewer, and its typing angle may not suit every wrist.

What the MONOKEI Standard offers

The Standard uses an 80-percent, tenkeyless layout: it keeps the function row, navigation cluster, and arrow keys but omits the number pad. Its listed construction includes an injection-moulded ABS case, polycarbonate plate, gasket strip mount, Cherry PCB-mount stabilizers, plate foam, and silencing foam. The stock keycaps are double-shot PBT Series 1 Black on White. MONOKEI’s product listing describes these specifications.

This combination is aimed at a ready-to-use board rather than a barebones customization project. The listing names Cherry MX Red, Silent Red, and Brown switches, and describes the PCB as hot-swappable. That gives buyers a choice among the listed switch types and an upgrade path, but check socket and switch compatibility before buying replacement switches; the listing does not establish compatibility with every aftermarket option.

Connectivity and device switching

The Standard connects over Bluetooth BLE 5.1 or USB-C, and is listed as compatible with macOS, iOS, Windows, and Android. It can pair with up to four devices, making it potentially useful for someone who moves between a computer, tablet, and phone. The product materials do not describe a particular switching shortcut, so consult the included manual for the exact method.

MONOKEI lists a rechargeable 1000mAh battery and estimates 30 days of use at eight hours per day. That is the manufacturer’s estimate, not an independently measured runtime, and the listing does not specify conditions such as connection mode or lighting use (the board has no backlight). The box contents listed by MONOKEI include a USB-C-to-C cable, switch and keycap pullers, an instruction manual, accent keycaps in three colors, and additional Windows keycaps.

Typing feel, sound, and ergonomics

In an August 18, 2023 review, Sandra Gutierrez G. of Popular Science praised the typing sound and textured double-shot PBT caps, but said the ABS enclosure felt less sturdy because of its light feel. Her assessment is subjective rather than a measured durability finding. She summarized the case bluntly: “The Standard’s case might be its least likable feature.” Read the Popular Science review.

Gutierrez G. also cautioned that the tall keys and typing angle could bend wrists uncomfortably. A tenkeyless wrist rest may help some users, as she suggested, but it is not a guaranteed ergonomic fix or a medical recommendation. If typing angle is a priority, the board’s relatively light case and geometry are worth considering before purchase.

Software and lighting limitations

The Standard does not have backlighting and is not VIA compatible. Mekibo, a retailer listing, says keymapping can instead be configured with Karabiner on macOS or AutoHotkey on Windows; these are operating-system tools, not the same as VIA’s keyboard firmware interface. Check the current Mekibo listing for its platform-specific guidance. Buyers who rely on programmable layers or extensive remapping may find this a limiting choice.

Who should buy the MONOKEI Standard?

  • Consider it if you want a compact prebuilt board, Bluetooth and USB-C options, multiple device pairings, and the ability to swap compatible switches without soldering.
  • Look elsewhere if backlighting, VIA support, a heavier-feeling case, or a typing angle that you already know suits you are priorities.
  • For a first mechanical keyboard, its straightforward prebuilt format and listed switch choices may be appealing; the independent reviewer similarly considered it a possible fit for beginners or casual enthusiasts, not a universal recommendation.

Price and availability

Price and stock vary by seller, region, and time. Mekibo’s listing showed a price of $99.99 against a crossed-out $149.99 and marked low stock when its page was accessed; that snapshot is not a guarantee of today’s price or availability. MONOKEI’s store search result showed S$189.00 reduced to S$94.50 but also marked the item sold out or unavailable, and that result was crawled roughly 1.3 years ago, so it should not be treated as a current offer. Check the seller’s live listing for local currency, shipping, stock, warranty, and return terms before ordering.
