Minecraft Dungeons II—also called Minecraft Dungeons 2—is the sequel to Minecraft Dungeons. Its biggest change is structural: the original’s separate missions give way to an interconnected world with dungeons to explore. Early reviews were broadly positive, though the available scores are a dated snapshot rather than a guarantee of how every player will feel.
What is Minecraft Dungeons 2?
Mojang’s official overview identifies Minecraft Dungeons II (aka Minecraft Dungeons 2) as the sequel to Minecraft Dungeons. The two names refer to the same game; this article uses “Minecraft Dungeons 2” for readability.
It remains a family-friendly, action-focused dungeon-crawling game in the Minecraft universe. The sequel’s announced changes include a new story, an Overworld map, new gear slots, and a shift from discrete missions to a fixed, interconnected world. That is a substantial change to how the adventure is organized, even if early review coverage characterized the overall approach as refinement rather than a reinvention of the genre.

The Sift
The Sift is the sequel’s new dimension. In a September 26, 2026 Xbox Wire article, Editor-in-Chief Joe Skrebels described it as “the first new dimension in Minecraft in over 14 years.” That article said players would be able to visit it when Minecraft Dungeons II launched on September 29, 2026; the sentence reflects the announcement’s then-future framing. Xbox also said it planned to bring the Sift to Minecraft in 2027, which is a future plan, not confirmation that it is already available in Minecraft. See the Xbox Wire announcement.
Is Minecraft Dungeons 2 worth playing?
Early review coverage suggests it is worth considering if the original’s approachable dungeon-crawling appealed to you and you want a larger connected world to explore. Windows Central’s September 28, 2026 review round-up reported Metacritic 76 and OpenCritic 85, and described the broad critical response as refinement of the first game’s appeal rather than a reinvention of the action-RPG genre. Those are scores reported by Windows Central on that date; aggregator scores can change.

The announcements establish new gear slots, but the available review coverage does not provide enough detail to compare individual builds, item balance, or progression systems comprehensively with the first game. GamesRadar’s reviewer found that combat could become overwhelming in dense encounters. That points to a possible drawback for players who prefer calmer, more readable fights, while the interconnected world and dungeon-focused action may appeal to players who want to move between exploration and combat.

How long is the campaign?
GamesRadar’s September 28, 2026 review estimated around 10 hours for the main story. Treat that as one reviewer’s estimate, not a guaranteed completion time: pace, difficulty, exploration, and replaying content can affect how long a player spends with the campaign.

GamesRadar also noted time-limited modifiers called Sift Tides. They add a changing element beyond the main story, but the cited review does not establish a single additional playtime figure for them.
