Microsoft is offering up to $1,000 in additional cash back when eligible customers trade in a MacBook Pro after buying a qualifying new Surface Laptop Ultra. That is the promotion’s advertised maximum, not a guaranteed payout: the amount depends on the Surface configuration purchased and the trade-in value Microsoft’s partner assigns to the MacBook.
The offer runs October 7 through November 23, 2026, through Microsoft Store online in the United States and Canada. Microsoft announced a $2,599 starting MSRP for the Surface Laptop Ultra and says it will be available October 16; local pricing and inventory may differ.
How to get the MacBook Pro trade-in offer
You need to buy a qualifying new Surface Laptop Ultra and submit an online trade-in claim for your MacBook Pro, including proof of purchase, during the promotion period. The purchase must be made through Microsoft Store online in the United States or Canada.
- Buy a qualifying Surface Laptop Ultra. Complete the purchase during October 7–November 23, 2026. Microsoft says prior orders or purchases do not qualify.
- Start the online trade-in process. Submit the claim for your MacBook Pro and provide proof of the Surface purchase within the promotion window.
- Prepare and mail the MacBook. After completing the online trade-in process, mail the device within 15 days.
- Wait for inspection and approval. Teladvance inspects the MacBook and determines its trade-in value. The trade-in value and reimbursement are subject to Teladvance’s approval and discretion.
Microsoft’s October 7, 2026 announcement and promotion terms say the offer is limited to one per customer, cannot be combined with other offers, and may be changed or discontinued by Microsoft. It is not available for prior purchases. The additional cash back cannot be transferred or redeemed as a gift card or credit toward other products.

Which MacBook Pros qualify?
The announcement does not provide a model-by-model eligibility list. Instead, it sets condition and ownership requirements. You must own the MacBook Pro, and it must:
- Power on, hold a battery charge without remaining plugged in, and be fully functional.
- Have no broken or missing components, cracked display or screen, liquid damage, modifications, or broken warranty seal.
- Be free of password protection.
- Include its original charger, accessories, and hard drive.
Teladvance may return or recycle a device that fails the criteria; a recycled device does not qualify for cash back. All trade-ins are final.

How much cash back will you receive?
Microsoft advertises up to $1,000 in extra cash back, but its announcement does not give a payout table or an example amount for any particular MacBook Pro model. The actual additional amount varies with the Surface device purchased and the assessed trade-in value. Do not assume that a MacBook meeting the condition rules will earn $1,000.
Because the final assessment comes after inspection and is subject to Teladvance’s discretion, the announcement does not establish what a specific owner will receive. Check the online trade-in offer and terms for the available estimate before sending your device.

When does the Surface Laptop Ultra go on sale?
Microsoft says the Surface Laptop Ultra will be available October 16, 2026, with a starting MSRP of $2,599. Those are the price and date stated in the announcement; they do not guarantee local pricing, a particular configuration’s price, or inventory. The trade-in promotion begins October 7, so the purchase and claim still need to fall within the stated October 7–November 23 offer window.
What Microsoft says about the Surface Laptop Ultra
Microsoft describes the Surface Laptop Ultra as its most powerful Surface Laptop, aimed at demanding creative, technical, and AI workloads. The announcement lists an NVIDIA RTX Spark platform with up to 6,144 GPU cores, up to 20 CPU cores, and up to 128 GB of unified memory. Available memory varies by configuration; the GPU cannot address all system memory, and the amount it can use depends on configuration and workload.

Microsoft says the laptop can run AI models exceeding 120 billion parameters locally and deliver up to 1 petaflop of AI performance. The petaflop figure is theoretical FP4 performance using sparsity, not an independent benchmark or a guarantee for every workload.

That comparison concerns peak HDR brightness under the stated basis; it does not establish that the Surface is better overall.

Other specifications Microsoft cites include a chassis less than 18 mm thin and under 4.5 lb, user-removable storage, USB-C, HDMI, USB-A, an SD card reader, and a headphone jack. The company says the laptop can drive up to three 4K displays with compatible displays, cables, and accessories. Configurations and accessory compatibility can vary. These are vendor specifications and claims, not independent product-test results.

The promotion may reduce the effective cost of switching, but the final trade-in value is uncertain until inspection. Compare the laptops on the needs that matter to you rather than treating the cash-back maximum or one specification as a complete verdict:
- Total price and configuration: Compare the Surface configuration you would actually buy with the MacBook Pro configuration you need, not just the Surface starting MSRP.
- Operating system and apps: Confirm that your essential software and workflows are available and work as expected on the operating system you plan to use.
- GPU and software ecosystem: Check compatibility with the creative, technical, or AI tools you rely on.
- Local AI workloads and memory: Consider the model sizes and applications you use, and remember that total system memory is not all GPU-addressable.
- Display performance: Compare measurements taken under comparable conditions; Microsoft’s peak-HDR figure is not a measure of sustained or SDR brightness.
- Portability, ports, and displays: Assess the device’s size and weight, the ports you need, and whether your external-display setup is compatible.
- Trade-in assessment: Include the condition rules, shipping deadline, inspection, and final assessed value in your switching decision.
Microsoft’s announcement supports its own specifications and promotion terms; it does not provide independent comparative testing or an overall performance verdict against MacBook Pro.
