Microsoft Intune Company Portal is the work-or-school access and self-service app (and website) your organization uses to help you enroll a device, install approved apps, view device details, and find IT support. You sign in with your work or school account; your organization’s Intune configuration determines which features and enrollment steps you see.
What Microsoft Intune Company Portal does
Company Portal is the user-facing part of an organization’s Intune setup. It can guide you through device enrollment, show work or school apps made available to you, display device information, and provide support contact details. Administrators control the portal’s configuration and available apps, so two users may see different options. Microsoft’s download and user guidance and its Company Portal configuration documentation describe these organization-dependent functions.
It is not a consumer Microsoft account or a way to bypass your employer’s or school’s access policies. Your organization decides whether a device must be enrolled, which resources it can access, and what management or app-protection rules apply.

You may need it if your organization requires device enrollment, distributes work apps through Intune, or requires Intune app-protection policies for access to organizational data. On Android, Microsoft says Company Portal must be present on the device to receive Intune App Protection Policies. App protection can apply to supported apps with or without full device enrollment in some scenarios, so having Company Portal does not by itself mean that the whole device is enrolled. Your organization determines which approach it supports. See Microsoft’s App Protection Policies overview.
#1 Best Overall
If your organization has not asked you to install it and you do not need work or school resources, you generally do not need Company Portal for personal use.
Where to install Company Portal
Microsoft lists Company Portal for Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows. Its download instructions give platform-specific routes; availability can also depend on region and device capability. Use the route Microsoft lists for your device, and follow any installation link or instructions supplied by your IT department.
Rank #2
- Android: Microsoft lists Google Play and alternative routes that may depend on region or device. Use the current Android instructions rather than an unofficial download.
- iPhone or iPad: Microsoft directs users to the Apple App Store.
- Mac: Microsoft provides an installer package route.
- Windows: Enrollment can be started with the Company Portal app or website, depending on your organization’s instructions.
How enrollment works on each platform
There is no single enrollment procedure for every device. The steps depend on operating system, whether the device is personal or organization-owned, and how the administrator configured enrollment. Company Portal may start or guide the process, but some Apple enrollment flows use Setup Assistant or automated enrollment instead.
Android
Follow the organization’s Android enrollment instructions in Company Portal. Microsoft’s Android enrollment guide describes enrollment with the app and states that Company Portal supports Android 8.0 and later. That is an app enrollment statement, not a universal minimum for every Intune management feature. The app-version support cutoff is separate: versions earlier than 5.0.5421.0 lost support on October 1, 2025, and may lose registration status or be marked noncompliant.
Rank #3
iPhone and iPad
Install the app from the App Store if your organization’s instructions call for it, then use the enrollment flow it specifies. The flow can differ when the organization uses automated enrollment; consult its instructions and Microsoft’s current Apple enrollment guidance for the applicable route.
Mac
Depending on ownership and setup, Microsoft documents BYOD device enrollment, Automated Device Enrollment, and direct enrollment. Company Portal or Apple Setup Assistant can authenticate and start enrollment. Automated enrollment and other organization-owned-device flows may not look like a personal-device enrollment. An active Apple MDM push certificate is a prerequisite for macOS enrollment in Intune. See Microsoft’s macOS device enrollment guide.
Rank #4
Windows
Microsoft documents enrollment through the Company Portal app or website. Its Windows enrollment guide describes the Company Portal flow for Windows 10 version 1607 and later and Windows 11. Windows 10 reached end of support on October 14, 2025; Microsoft says Windows 10 devices may still enroll, but eligible functionality is not guaranteed. Enrollment therefore should not be taken as assurance that an out-of-support OS will meet your organization’s requirements.
Check OS requirements before enrolling
Do not treat the minimum OS version for installing or enrolling in Company Portal as the minimum for every Intune capability. Supported and allowed enrollment versions differ by operating system, enrollment type, and feature. For example, Microsoft’s Intune supported operating systems page lists Android 10 and later for user-based management, while certain userless management methods support Android 8 and later; Intune app protection and managed-app configuration require Android 10 or later. Check the current platform requirements and your organization’s policy before relying on a particular OS version.

What Android permission prompts mean
Android permission wording is controlled by Google, and Microsoft explains the Company Portal prompts within their specific contexts. These explanations do not establish what an employer can see across every platform or management setup.
- Storage or files for diagnostics: Microsoft says Company Portal does not access photos, media, or files. Allowing the permission lets the app write diagnostic logs to device storage so they can be moved by USB.
- Contacts: Microsoft says the app does not access contacts. It says the permission enables Intune to create a work account and manage the registered Microsoft Entra identity; denying it prevents work enrollment.
- Phone: Microsoft says Company Portal does not make or manage calls. Granting the permission allows your phone number and IMEI to be shared with Intune and seen by the IT administrator. Microsoft says you can deny it and still enroll.
For the broader question of what your organization can see, consult Microsoft’s Intune user help and ask your administrator about your organization’s specific platform and management configuration.
Install work or school apps and find support
Open Company Portal and sign in with the work or school account associated with your organization. The available app list and device actions are administrator-configured: an app may not appear if it has not been made available to you, your device is not eligible, or the organization uses another distribution route. Use the portal’s support details or your organization’s normal IT help channel when you need assistance.

Quick Recap
Fix common setup and access problems
- Confirm the app source. Reinstall or update Company Portal using the route Microsoft lists for your platform.
- Use the right account. Sign in with the work or school account your organization expects, not a personal Microsoft account.
- Follow the organization’s flow. For Apple automated enrollment or organization-owned devices, use the supplied instructions rather than assuming the personal-device steps apply.
- Check device and app eligibility. Review current OS and enrollment requirements, and update Company Portal—especially on Android, where versions earlier than 5.0.5421.0 are unsupported.
- Contact IT if the error persists. Account status, enrollment policy, device eligibility, available apps, and portal behavior are controlled by the organization. Microsoft’s user help page provides further user guidance.
