Microsoft announced on April 6, 2023, that Image Creator was available on desktop for Edge users around the world. The image-generation feature was accessed from the Image Creator icon in Edge’s sidebar. That announcement described a 2023 rollout; it does not establish the feature’s availability or placement in Edge today.
What Microsoft announced in April 2023
Microsoft’s Windows Experience Blog said, “Image Creator is now available on desktop for Edge users around the world.” Microsoft’s April 6, 2023 announcement specifically described desktop availability. It was a broad Edge rollout announcement, not a statement that every related Bing feature had simultaneously reached every user.
Where Edge users accessed Image Creator
Microsoft’s earlier March 21, 2023 announcement identified the Image Creator icon in the Edge sidebar as the entry point. It described Edge access on desktop and mobile for users around the world in English. The April post then confirmed desktop availability worldwide.

The two announcements covered related but distinct ways to reach Image Creator. Microsoft said Edge’s sidebar feature was available to Edge users around the world in English, while Image Creator’s integration into Bing Chat would begin rolling out to Bing preview users. The Bing Chat rollout therefore had a specifically named preview audience; it should not be treated as identical to the Edge availability announcement.

How the feature reached this rollout
Microsoft’s announcement history shows a progression from a limited preview to broader availability:
- October 20, 2022: Microsoft said Image Creator was beginning a limited preview in select markets and that it would be coming to Edge. This was an early preview, not evidence of broad Edge availability. Microsoft’s October 2022 announcement.
- March 21, 2023: Microsoft announced Bing Image Creator for the new Bing and Edge preview, describing Edge sidebar access for users around the world in English and a separate Bing Chat rollout for Bing preview users.
- April 6, 2023: Microsoft said Image Creator was available on desktop for Edge users around the world.
What the announcement does—and does not—tell you now
The April 2023 announcement answers who Microsoft said could access Image Creator through Edge at that time and where the feature appeared. It does not establish whether Image Creator remains in the same sidebar location in 2026, what regions or languages are currently eligible, whether sign-in is required, or how the present-day service behaves. Those details should not be inferred from the historical rollout language.
