A blank Microlink screenshot often means the browser captured the page before a client-rendered app finished showing its data. Wait for a page-specific element—not just navigation—to appear. If the image instead shows a login form or bot challenge, investigate access and authentication rather than adding more delay. Without the target URL and request details, the exact cause cannot be identified.
Why is my Microlink screenshot blank?
Navigation completion and application readiness are different. A browser may reach a load event while a JavaScript framework has rendered only an empty shell, spinner, or placeholder; the data or chart may appear later. Microlink’s dynamic-content guide explains: “The browser considers a page loaded when its resources are fetched, not when the framework has hydrated and the data has arrived.” This is Microlink’s explanation of its capture behavior, not an independent benchmark.
Other possibilities include content that loads only after scrolling or clicking, a login screen because the request lacks a valid session, a bot-protection challenge, or a problem displaying the returned image in your own application. A blank-looking image alone does not distinguish among them.
Check the response before changing wait settings
For a basic capture, Microlink documents the url target and screenshot=true option. A successful response includes data.screenshot.url and screenshot metadata such as width, height, type, and size. Inspect the HTTP response status and those fields first; this establishes whether Microlink returned an asset before you debug your own image display or CDN path. See Microlink’s screenshot parameter documentation and dynamic-content guide.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- If the asset URL is absent, or the response reports an error, diagnose the capture request and page access.
- If the asset exists with nonzero dimensions and size but your application shows nothing, investigate how your application fetches, stores, or renders that image. The cited Microlink documentation does not identify the cause in a particular caller implementation.
If you need only a screenshot, Microlink’s guide recommends meta:false to skip unrelated metadata extraction. That can reduce unnecessary work; it is not a documented fix for content that has not rendered.
Wait for the content that should appear
Prefer a meaningful selector that exists only when the desired content has rendered. For example, if a chart draws an SVG after its data loads, wait for that SVG rather than a generic element such as body. Pair it with an early navigation condition such as domcontentloaded so the selector wait—not a guess about elapsed time—determines when to capture.

const { url } = await microlink.screenshot('https://app.example.com/report', {
meta: false,
waitUntil: 'domcontentloaded',
waitForSelector: '.chart svg'
})
This follows Microlink’s documented pattern. Replace the example URL and selector with the actual page and an element that signals its content is ready. See Microlink’s dynamic-content guide.
Choose a wait condition that fits the page
| Method | What it waits for | When it helps and what can go wrong |
|---|---|---|
waitForSelector |
A particular element to appear. | Best when you can identify an element tied to the content you need. A selector that appears before hydration will not prove the page is ready. |
networkidle0 or networkidle2 |
Network requests to become quiet under the selected lifecycle condition. | May help when fetches are still resolving, but long-polling or persistent connections can prevent the page from becoming quiet. |
waitForTimeout |
A fixed delay. | Use only when there is no stable selector or other observable readiness condition. A short delay may still capture too early; a long one adds avoidable wait. |
Microlink supports waitUntil values including auto, load, domcontentloaded, networkidle0, and networkidle2. A lifecycle event says something about navigation or network activity; it does not necessarily mean the application has displayed the content you want. Microlink’s dynamic-content guide described free-endpoint and Pro request timeouts as 30 and 60 seconds, respectively, when accessed on 2026-10-03. Those are volatile plan details; check the current guide before relying on them, and keep any fixed wait within the applicable request timeout.

Trigger lazy or interactive content before capture
Some content does not load until it enters the viewport; other content is hidden until a tab or collapsed panel is opened. A wait for an element that has not been triggered may never produce the intended result.
- For lazy-loaded content, use Microlink’s
scrollaction to bring the relevant section into view. - For a tab or collapsed panel, use
clickon its trigger. - After the action, wait for an element inside the loaded section or opened panel.
- Capture the viewport or full page after the element appears, depending on what you need.
Microlink documents combining these actions and waits in one request. Its screenshot.element option captures a selected DOM element and waits for its selector to become visible. When you need a viewport or full-page capture and the content appears later, a separate waitForSelector can target that readiness state. See the dynamic-content recipes and the screenshot parameter reference.

Tell an access problem from a timing problem
If the image shows a bot challenge or access-denied page
Do not assume more waiting will solve a page that is explicitly blocking the request. Microlink documents antibot protection as a separate issue: its free plan may return EPROXYNEEDED, while its Pro offering can route blocked requests through proxy tiers. This applies when the response or rendered page indicates a block, not to every blank capture. Check Microlink’s antibot protection guide for current availability and details.
If the image shows a login form
A login page usually means the target did not receive a usable session. Microlink documents forwarding cookies or authorization headers to pro.microlink.io with a valid API key; its guide says header forwarding requires Pro. Verify that the cookie name and domain match the target, the session has not expired, and you are using the documented endpoint and credentials. Do not put secrets in a public query string; Microlink directs sensitive values to request headers. Consult its authentication guide.

Common fixes by symptom
| What you observe | Likely area to check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Empty shell, spinner, or placeholder | App hydration or data readiness. | Wait for a content-specific selector; avoid treating a navigation event as proof of readiness. |
| Section missing while the rest of the page appears | Lazy loading or a hidden panel. | Scroll to the section or click its trigger, then wait for an element inside it. |
| Challenge or access-denied page | Bot protection or request access. | Inspect the response and follow Microlink’s antibot guidance rather than extending the delay. |
| Login form | Missing, expired, or incorrectly scoped session. | Check credentials, cookie domain and expiry, endpoint, and the authentication requirements. |
| Microlink returns screenshot metadata, but your page looks blank | Downstream asset loading or display. | Check the returned asset URL, dimensions, type, size, and your application’s image handling. |
To narrow down an ambiguous case, record the target URL, request parameters, response status and body, screenshot metadata if present, and what the same target shows in a normal browser. These details help separate rendering, access, capture, and display issues.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does a blank Microlink screenshot always mean the page timed out?
No. It can also show content that was not triggered, an access challenge, a login screen, or an image-display problem after capture. Check the response and rendered image to distinguish them.
