In 2017, a team called Mexloop proposed a Hyperloop route between Mexico City and Guadalajara, with stops near Querétaro and León. Its proponents forecast a journey of about 45 minutes, but that was a projection—not a measured trip time or an operating service. Available reporting does not establish whether the proposal later received government approval, financing, or construction authorization.
What was the Mexloop proposal?
Mexloop was a proposed passenger corridor of roughly 330 miles (about 531 km) connecting Mexico City and Guadalajara. The route was described as passing through or stopping near Querétaro and León, with possible links to airports, freight hubs, metro systems, and commuter rail. These were elements of a proposal reported in 2017, not evidence that the connections were built.
Futurism reported that the team hoped the system would serve 68 million people by 2020. That was a forward-looking target reported in 2017; it does not establish that service began or that the target was reached. Futurism’s 2017 report
Was the proposed trip really 45 minutes?
About 45 minutes was a travel-time estimate attributed to Mexloop’s proponents for a Mexico City–Guadalajara journey. It was not a verified timetable. Inhabitat also reported a 38-minute estimate for the proposed full route, while repeating the comparison with a six-hour drive and a trip under 45 minutes. The 2017 articles do not explain why the estimates differ, so they should be treated as distinct historical claims rather than combined into one definitive figure. Inhabitat’s 2017 report

Neither estimate provides a like-for-like door-to-door comparison. The reporting does not establish journey time for station access, waiting, transfers, or other parts of a complete trip, and it offers no operating service data against which to test the projections.
How far did the project get?
Mexloop was reported in connection with Hyperloop One’s Global Challenge, an open call for regional proposals from individuals, universities, companies, and governments. Hyperloop One said selected teams would work with its engineers and business-development team to explore project development and financing. A competition selection or design proposal is not the same as government approval, secured funding, construction authorization, or a functioning railway. Hyperloop One’s Global Challenge announcement

The cited reporting does not establish whether Mexloop later obtained formal Mexican government approval or project financing, began construction, or was cancelled. It is therefore not accurate to describe it as currently being built—or to state that it was definitively abandoned—on the basis of these reports alone.
What did Mexloop claim about cost and fares?
Inhabitat reported preliminary Mexloop estimates that the system might cost two-thirds as much as high-speed rail and that fares could be comparable to a car or bus trip, or a low-cost flight. These were proponent estimates, not verified construction costs or ticket prices. The cited reporting does not provide a completed cost analysis, an established fare schedule, or a funded project budget.

What is—and is not—known about the proposal’s benefits?
In 2017, Hyperloop One research analyst Darryle Ulama said: “A Hyperloop portal connected to the city’s light rail and transit line could shift more travelers to environmentally friendlier options and strengthen the city’s transit-oriented development strategy,” as quoted in Hyperloop One’s Global Challenge announcement via PR Newswire. This was a proponent’s view of a potential benefit, not an independent environmental assessment.
The available reporting does not establish Mexloop’s emissions, safety, passenger comfort, capacity, or technical and financial feasibility. Nor does it provide operating results, because it does not document a passenger service in operation.

What should readers conclude about “Mexico’s 45-minute Hyperloop”?
The phrase refers to a 2017 proposal, not a demonstrated way to travel between Mexico City and Guadalajara. The route and its promised speed were presented as plans and estimates. The reported 38- and 45-minute figures remain unverified, and the project’s later approval, financing, and construction status are not settled by the cited sources.
