Metroid Prime Remastered updates the original Metroid Prime adventure on Tallon IV; Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is a new series entry set on Viewros. The biggest differences are the setting, abilities, traversal and platform options—not simply graphics: Beyond adds psychic powers and the Vi-O-La bike, while its Nintendo Switch 2 Edition offers selectable display modes and mouse-style aiming.
Are these the same game or different releases?
They are different kinds of releases. Metroid Prime Remastered is an updated version of the first Metroid Prime, originally released for GameCube. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is a new entry in the series, launched December 4, 2025 for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo describes the latter as a new game, not a remaster of the original.
Nintendo’s announcement of Beyond and its US product listing give the launch and platform details. Nintendo’s 2023 announcement of Remastered identifies it as the remaster of the original game.
How do the settings and gameplay differ?

What does Beyond’s Switch 2 Edition add?
Nintendo Support lists two display modes for the Switch 2 Edition. These are Nintendo-published specifications, not independent performance measurements:

The Switch 2 Edition also supports Joy-Con 2 mouse-style aiming and faster loading, according to Nintendo Support. The source identifies these as edition features; it does not establish a controlled performance comparison against Remastered.

Which platforms and editions can you get?
- Metroid Prime Remastered: Nintendo Switch. Nintendo UK lists both digital and physical versions. Its UK listing gives February 8, 2023 for the digital release and March 3, 2023 for the physical game-card release. Nintendo of America said the physical version would be in stores February 22, 2023, so physical release dates vary by region. See the UK listing and North American announcement.

Which one should you choose, and should you play Remastered first?
Choose Remastered for the original adventure
Pick Remastered if you want the first Prime game’s focused return to Tallon IV, with its scanning, puzzles, backtracking and familiar weapons and visors.
Choose Beyond for a new entry and new tools
Pick Beyond if you want a new planet, psychic abilities and bike-based traversal. If you have a Switch 2, its edition adds the choice between the documented display modes and Joy-Con 2 mouse-style aiming.

Playing Remastered first lets you experience the original game and setting, but Nintendo’s official materials do not say it is required before Beyond. Choose based on whether you want the original adventure or would rather start with the new entry. The official feature descriptions do not establish which game is longer, harder, better reviewed or more enjoyable; those judgments require evidence beyond the feature lists.
