A November 2025 report relayed a leak about a smaller, lighter headset, a separate compute-and-battery puck, eye and face tracking, a higher-resolution display and an approximately US$800 price. Those remain unconfirmed claims—not a product announcement. As of October 8, 2026, Meta’s newly announced lightweight Meta VR Glasses are a separate device, not Quest 4.
What are the Meta Quest 4 rumors?
The rumor package appeared in a TechRadar report by David Nield published November 26, 2025. It attributed the claims to VR-industry veteran Nima Zeighami, via Android Central. The report described a possible next headset that would be smaller and lighter than current Quest headsets, with computing hardware and battery moved to a separate puck. It also mentioned built-in eye and face tracking, a higher-resolution display, a price near US$800 and the possibility that Meta would use a name other than Quest.
That is a report of a leak, not confirmation from Meta. The article’s suggestion that a device might arrive in 2026 at the earliest has since been overtaken by later reporting. Meta has not confirmed that any of those leaked design or feature details apply to its gaming-headset successor.
What the leak does—and does not—establish
- Design: The source claimed a smaller, lighter headset connected to a separate compute-and-battery puck. Meta has not confirmed that design for a Quest successor.
- Tracking: Eye and face tracking were part of the leak, not announced Quest 4 features.
- Display: The report mentioned higher resolution but gave no confirmed Quest 4 resolution or other display measurements.
- Price: The approximately US$800 figure circulated in that 2025 report; Meta has not announced a successor price.
- Name: The leak suggested the next headset might not be called Quest. Meta has not confirmed its retail name.
Has Meta announced Quest 4?
No. As of October 8, 2026, Meta has not announced a Quest 4 or published confirmed specifications, pricing or a launch date for a gaming-focused Quest successor. Meta’s official device comparison lists Quest 3 and Quest 3S alongside Meta VR Glasses, but not Quest 4. Current reporting also says no new Quest was shown at Meta Connect on September 23, 2026. For the status cross-check, see the VR.org Quest 4 tracker; treat its roadmap discussion as secondary reporting, not an official schedule.

Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth has discussed multiple devices on the company’s roadmap. In May 2026 interview coverage, he said, “It’s officially leaked we’ve got two devices on the roadmap that we’re super excited about coming out over the course of a period of time,” and, of learning from another headset, “Every time there is a new headset, we learn from it.” The comments support the existence of a broader device roadmap; they do not identify a Quest 4 or confirm its name, timing, price or hardware. VR.org’s interview coverage reported the remarks.
Is Meta VR Glasses the rumored Quest 4?
No. Meta has officially announced Meta VR Glasses as a distinct glasses-with-puck product. Meta’s developer product page describes a roughly 100-gram device with a tethered compute puck, eye, hand and voice inputs, and planned availability in spring 2027. The Meta Newsroom announcement also presents it as a separate product. Its shared use of Meta’s platform does not make it Quest 4 or establish that a future gaming headset will use the same design.

Their confirmed specifications belong to Meta VR Glasses—not to an unannounced Quest successor.
What are the rumored Quest 4 specs?
There are no confirmed Quest 4 specifications to compare. The table separates the original leak’s claims from the published specifications of current or announced devices; the latter are not evidence of Quest 4 hardware.

For context only, Meta’s official comparison lists Quest 3 with a 2064×2208-pixel-per-eye LCD, a 120 Hz refresh rate, a 110° horizontal and 96° vertical field of view, and Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2. It lists Meta VR Glasses with 2412×2288 pixels per eye, 120 Hz, a 70° horizontal and 66° vertical field of view, micro-OLED and Snapdragon XR2 Gen 3. These are specifications of the named products, not clues that establish Quest 4’s display, processor or performance. Meta’s comparison page also lists Quest 3S at 1832×1920 pixels per eye and 120 Hz.
How much might Quest 4 cost?
The only specific figure in the cited rumor coverage is approximately US$800, relayed by TechRadar in November 2025. It was not an announced price, and no credible successor price has been established in current reporting. Meta has published no Quest 4 price, so the rumor should not be treated as a likely retail price or a basis for a purchase budget.

When could the next Meta gaming headset come out?
Meta has not announced a release date. The 2025 rumor article’s “2026 at the earliest” expectation is no longer a useful current estimate. Later reporting based on internal memos places a gaming-focused successor no earlier than the second half of 2027, while some reports allow for 2028. These are reported possibilities, not an official launch window; Meta’s spring 2027 timing applies to Meta VR Glasses, not Quest 4.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Will Meta’s next gaming headset still be called Quest?
That is unknown. The original leak suggested Meta might choose a different name, but the company has not announced the gaming successor’s retail name. Meta VR Glasses is the confirmed name of the separate glasses product; it does not confirm a rebrand for the Quest line.
Should you wait for a Quest successor or buy a Quest 3?
If you want a headset on the basis of known features and availability, compare current devices on what Meta has actually published. Quest 3 is an all-in-one headset with Touch controllers and official specifications; a successor remains unannounced. Meta VR Glasses are a different, puck-tethered product with announced spring 2027 availability and a separate media-and-productivity positioning. Decide whether you want an all-in-one gaming headset now or are comfortable waiting amid uncertainty about a future gaming headset’s design, name, price and timing. Meta’s comparison page provides the confirmed listed-device specifications.
