Yes—according to instructions extracted from Meta’s Muse and reported by WIRED, the personal AI agent appears designed to build pages about people in a user’s life, including people who have never signed up for Muse. That does not establish that every user has a complete file on every acquaintance, or that every detail is correct. WIRED reported the instructions may create sparse pages that fill in over time.

What WIRED found in Muse’s instructions

On October 3, 2026, WIRED reported that independent researcher Karan Joshi extracted instructions and system prompts through Muse’s regular chat interface by asking it to copy and share its software files. He shared the findings with WIRED. Meta told the publication it had intended the files to be accessible for transparency. The report describes what the extracted instructions say; it is not an independent inspection of every production account.

The instructions describe an hourly process for creating pages about people around a Muse user. The categories named include family, partners, friends, colleagues, collaborators, and people the user follows. The people described need not use Muse themselves. The instructions indicate pages may begin with little information and develop over time; the reporting does not establish how many non-users have pages or how often those pages are populated. What a person page may contain

The extracted instructions reportedly describe sections such as Facts, History, The relationship, In common, Open threads, and Strengthening. Examples include a person’s home or workplace, recurring conversation topics, birthdays or anniversaries, shared experiences, and possible follow-ups or suggestions for improving a relationship.

These are examples of possible page contents, not evidence that Muse has collected each detail about every person. The report does not establish that a page is complete, accurate, or present for every person in a user’s life.

How Meta says Muse gets context

Meta spokesperson Daniel Roberts told WIRED that an agent needs context about a user and the people they interact with to be useful. He said Muse gathers that context “based on public information and from what you’ve chosen to share.” That is Meta’s account of its approach, not independent verification of every source used in each page.

The finding raises a distinction that matters for privacy: a person may be described in another user’s AI workspace even if they never created a Muse account or directly gave Muse information. The sources reviewed do not establish a specific process by which a non-user can see what another user’s Muse may hold about them.

What users can control—and what non-users cannot

Meta says each Muse user has a dedicated virtual machine (VM) that stores their files and generated data. The company says users can inspect, edit, and download those files, including Muse’s memory; disconnect services; and ask Muse to forget specific information. Its launch materials also describe an option to wipe memories. These are controls over a user’s own Muse environment, not a documented way for someone who has never used Muse to inspect or remove a description stored in another person’s environment. Meta describes the VM as isolated from other users and agents, but says that isolation does not prevent Meta from accessing data when necessary to support, secure, or operate Muse. Meta also says conversations and VM data are not shared with its ad systems. Separately, its technical description says browsing or activity in Meta services may indirectly influence ads. These statements describe different data paths; they do not mean Meta can never access Muse data or that Muse-related activity can have no indirect advertising effect.

Training is another separate question. Meta says Muse interaction data can be opted out of model training in settings. Its technical post describes sanitized conversation and action trajectories being used for model training by default. That is not the same as saying all stored files are training data, nor that no Muse interaction data is used for training.

Safety limits and availability

Meta says Muse asks before sensitive actions such as sending email or making purchases, keeps an audit trail, and lets users choose connected apps and access levels. Those safeguards concern what the agent can do; they do not resolve whether a non-user has a way to review a page about themselves. Meta AI Research also says Muse “isn’t immune to attack,” that prompt injection remains an open industry problem, and that Muse will sometimes make mistakes. (Meta AI Research on Muse safety)

When Meta announced Muse on September 8, 2026, it said rollout was beginning in the United States on iOS, Android, and the web. Availability can change, so that launch description should not be read as a current list of supported countries or platforms. (Meta’s launch announcement; Associated Press launch coverage)

What this means if you are mentioned in someone else’s Muse

The reported instructions support a limited but important conclusion: Muse appears designed to organize context about people around its user, and that may include people who have never used the product. They do not show that every non-user has a page, what information any particular page contains, or whether a detail is correct.

If you use Muse, Meta’s described controls let you manage information in your own workspace, including reviewing or asking it to forget stored material and disconnecting services. If you do not use Muse, the sources reviewed do not document a direct control for finding or deleting information about yourself in another person’s Muse. That absence in the sources is not proof that no remedy exists; it means a specific non-user mechanism is not established here.
