MComix is a free desktop viewer for opening local comics and manga on Linux or Windows. It reads common image files and comic archives such as CBZ and CBR, and includes right-to-left manga reading, double-page display, bookmarks, and a library. It is a viewer for files you already have—not a comic store. Some formats, notably RAR/CBR and PDF, need additional software or libraries to work.

How to install MComix on Linux or Windows

Linux
The wiki lists distribution package routes for Ubuntu/Debian, openSUSE and Arch/AUR, along with Flatpak through Flathub. Package availability changes by distribution and release, so check your distribution’s current package information rather than assuming a particular version is current. For a source installation, MComix requires GTK 3; platform instructions written for GTK 4 may need adaptation. Optional fileformats support is available for additional formats.
Windows
The project documents installation through WinGet, Chocolatey and Scoop, as well as a manual MSI or ZIP install. With the ZIP build, extract the files and run MComix.exe. The MSI requires administrator access. The project notes that uninstalling leaves configuration and library data behind. Check the installation wiki for the current commands and package details before installing.

How to read comics and manga in MComix
MComix provides viewing controls intended for comic pages, rather than only a basic image-by-image display. Its documented features include fullscreen, double-page view, fitting images to the window’s width or height, and smart scrolling. Manga mode changes page order for right-to-left reading. The interface includes a thumbnail sidebar alongside the main page display. Bookmarks help return to a place in a book, while the library can organize comics. What is the latest MComix version?
The project news page lists MComix 3.2.0 in a change-log post dated August 20, 2026. That entry says the Windows package includes updated dependencies, including Python, GTK, 7z, unrar and mutool. Because release information can change, check the MComix news page for a newer entry before relying on version-specific details. The project also maintains its MComix download page.

- A CBR file fails: Check that an appropriate RAR tool or compatible UnRAR library is available to the installation.
- A CB7 file fails: The project lists the
7zexecutable as its requirement. - An LHA archive fails: Install
lha, or use the documented7zfallback. - A PDF fails: Check for PyMuPDF or
mutool. - A file type is listed but unsupported in practice: Verify the required optional tool or library for your operating system and installation method; not every MComix installation necessarily includes every dependency.
