How much is Maryland giving Anduril?
The state and Baltimore County announced that they would match up to 13% of Anduril’s anticipated investment through existing economic-incentive programs and new appropriations. Applying 13% to the planned $3.7 billion investment produces a maximum implied figure of about $481 million. That is a ceiling derived from the percentage, not a finalized appropriation or evidence that the money has been paid. The State of Maryland says new appropriations require approval from the Maryland General Assembly and Baltimore County Council. Maryland’s October 6 announcement does not itemize the final state and county shares. Contemporary reporting also says Anduril had not confirmed that $481 million was an accurate total. The Baltimore Banner reported a proposed county manufacturing personal-property tax credit of up to $210 million over 30 years; that proposal is not the same as a finalized, approved package.
What do the project’s major dollar figures mean?
The figures describe different kinds of money with different levels of certainty. They should not be added together as though they were one public payment.

Maryland also says it plans capital support for a workforce-training Center of Excellence, but the site has not been determined. The announcement does not provide a finalized amount for that support. The state announcement describes it as part of the project’s workforce plans.
What is Anduril building at Sparrows Point?
Anduril calls the planned facility Arsenal-2, a two-million-square-foot “software-defined shipyard” at Tradepoint Atlantic within the Sparrows Point complex in Baltimore County. The project is intended to expand the U.S. submarine industrial base. The company’s co-founder and CEO, Brian Schimpf, said, “With Arsenal-2, Anduril will return large-scale shipbuilding to a site that can once again define American naval power.” The Maryland announcement attributes the statement to Schimpf.

Components first, not complete submarines
USNI News reports that initial Maryland production is expected to include submarine components such as torpedo tubes. Modules and, eventually, full hull sections have been described as longer-term goals. Anduril is not planning to build complete submarines at the site. These are reported plans and ambitions, not established production capabilities. Newport News Shipbuilding president Kari Wilkinson told USNI News, “Newport News Shipbuilding welcomes all steps to expand industrial base capacity in support of submarine component manufacturing.” USNI News
When will the shipyard open and begin production?
USNI News reports Anduril expects production at Sparrows Point to begin in 2030. The company plans earlier production at its Costa Mesa, California facility. The 2030 date is a reported company plan, not confirmation that construction is complete or production has begun. USNI News

How many jobs and how much economic activity are projected?
Maryland’s October 6, 2026 announcement projects more than 3,100 new permanent direct jobs and says the project is expected to support over 14,000 jobs in total. The state also estimates more than $2 billion in annual economic output and $312 million in wages each year.
