As of Transport for Greater Manchester’s announcement on 6 October 2026, Apple users can buy Bee Network bus and tram tickets in Apple Wallet and keep them on a Bee Card. To travel, tap the iPhone or Apple Watch holding the card at a Bee Network reader. The announcement does not establish that every fare or ticket type is available, or identify supported device and software versions.
What Bee Card in Apple Wallet does
The Wallet option puts a Bee Card and purchased ticket in Apple Wallet, where you can present it using an iPhone or Apple Watch. It is different from paying for a ticket in the Bee Network app with Apple Pay: that app payment method buys a ticket in the app, while Bee Card in Wallet is the card you tap at a reader. TfGM’s launch announcement is dated 6 October 2026; a local report published the following day provides the detailed description of tapping and Express Mode.

How to use Bee Card on an iPhone or Apple Watch
- Check eligibility first. Apple’s general travel-card guidance requires a supported card, compatible device and supported software, an Apple Account signed in to iCloud, and availability for the region and transport system. TfGM’s launch information does not specify the Bee Network’s exact device or software requirements. Apple’s general guidance is at Apple Support: Use transit cards in Apple Wallet.
- Buy a supported ticket in Wallet. TfGM says tickets can be bought directly in Apple Wallet and stored on a Bee Card. The available launch details do not confirm the Wallet setup screens or which individual fares, concessions, or ticket types are offered.
- Tap at a Bee Network reader. Present the iPhone or Apple Watch holding the Bee Card when using a Bee Network bus or tram. The launch report says the card supports Express Mode, which can let you tap without waking or unlocking the device or opening an app.
- Check the reader accepts the tap. Make sure you have a valid ticket or that your chosen payment method has registered successfully before travelling.
Express Mode and device requirements
Express Mode is an Apple Wallet feature for supported transit cards. Depending on the card and operator, it can allow a tap without unlocking or authenticating for each journey; Apple says an eligible travel card may have Express Mode enabled by default. The local launch report says Bee Card can use Express Mode, but individual settings and behaviour may vary. Apple’s general setup instructions do not constitute a Bee Network-specific compatibility list.
The published launch details do not confirm whether a Bee Card in Wallet works when the device has no power or internet connection. Do not assume it will behave like an app ticket in those circumstances.

Choose the payment method that fits your trip
Wallet is one of several ways to pay or carry a ticket on the Bee Network. TfGM lists contactless tap and go, Bee Network app tickets, smart cards, and buying tickets with cash or card. Availability of particular fares and concessions in Apple Wallet is not established in the launch information.
| Option | How it works | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Bee Card in Apple Wallet | Buy a ticket in Wallet, then tap the iPhone or Apple Watch at a Bee Network reader. | Device and software compatibility, and whether your required ticket is available in Wallet. |
| Contactless tap and go | Tap a contactless card or device to pay for travel. | Use the relevant TfGM contactless guidance for fares and how to tap. |
| Bee Network app | Buy and display selected bus, tram, or multimodal tickets in the app. Apple Pay and Google Pay are listed as payment methods for app purchases. | Your phone needs enough battery to display an app ticket. |
| Smart card | Use a smart card for supported travel and tap successfully where required. | Check that it carries a valid ticket or has been tapped in successfully. |
| Cash or card purchase | Buy a ticket through the available cash or card purchase option. | Confirm the correct ticket for your route before travelling. |
For current methods and fare enforcement, consult TfGM’s ways to pay guidance. TfGM says passengers without a valid paper or app ticket, or without a successful tap using a smart card, contactless card, or device, may face a penalty fare of up to £120.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Wallet ticket versus Apple Pay in the Bee Network app
These are separate functions. Apple Pay in the Bee Network app is a payment method for purchasing an app ticket; it does not itself mean that the ticket is stored as a Bee Card in Wallet. The App Store listing for the Bee Network app describes selected app tickets and notes that the phone must have sufficient battery to show an app ticket. That battery warning concerns app tickets; Wallet-specific offline or no-power behaviour was not confirmed.
What the launch announcement does not specify
- The exact iPhone and Apple Watch models or software versions supported.
- Which Bee Network fares, concessions, or ticket types can be bought in Wallet.
- Wallet-specific behaviour when a device is offline or out of battery.
- A TfGM-confirmed, step-by-step Wallet setup flow beyond the ability to buy tickets directly in Wallet and tap with a device.
Apple’s general instructions are to open Wallet, choose the add-card flow, select a travel card if one is offered, and follow the on-screen prompts; available options depend on the transport system and region. Treat those as general Apple steps, not a confirmed Bee Network setup sequence.
