Malwarebytes says its Privacy VPN is built in partnership with AzireVPN and uses AzireVPN infrastructure. The purchase price and other financial terms were not disclosed.
What Malwarebytes acquired—and why
Malwarebytes’ November 7, 2024 announcement described AzireVPN as a privacy-focused VPN provider. The stated aim was to integrate AzireVPN’s VPN technology and intellectual property into Malwarebytes’ platform, adding flexibility and security to its products. The announcement emphasized Blind Operator, a technology AzireVPN developed to disable remote and local access to servers, creating a barrier to unauthorized modification and traffic interception.
Malwarebytes also said it intended to continue AzireVPN’s practice of physically owning and controlling its servers. The companies did not disclose the purchase price or transaction structure in the acquisition announcement.
What changed for Malwarebytes VPN users
AzireVPN infrastructure is now part of the product
Malwarebytes’ current Privacy VPN page describes the service as “built in partnership with AzireVPN.” It says the VPN uses a self-owned physical-server network, diskless servers and Blind Operator mode, and states that the service does not log activity. These are Malwarebytes’ descriptions of its product and policy, not a promise that any VPN can eliminate every privacy or security risk.

The page currently lists more than 150 servers in more than 60 locations. Those figures are product-page claims that may change. Privacy VPN is offered as a standalone subscription; Malwarebytes Plus bundles it with Premium Security and Browser Guard.
Windows backend update and Multihop change
Malwarebytes’ Windows VPN version 3.18.0 release, dated January 27, 2026, says the server backend was updated to connect with AzireVPN infrastructure. The release also notes a WireGuardNT tunnel-driver update in applicable configurations and says Multihop was deprecated. The Multihop change is specifically documented in that Windows release; it should not be assumed to describe every platform or version. See the version 3.18.0 release notes.

Is AzireVPN still operating?
Malwarebytes’ current product page continues to identify AzireVPN as its partner, and Malwarebytes’ 2026 announcement and the related audit report describe Privacy VPN as using AzireVPN infrastructure. That establishes an ongoing role for AzireVPN technology and infrastructure in Malwarebytes Privacy VPN; the cited materials do not establish whether AzireVPN continues to operate as a separate, independently marketed consumer service.

On April 2, 2026, Malwarebytes announced that X41 D-Sec had completed its first independent third-party security audit of AzireVPN infrastructure. Malwarebytes said the assessment covered VPN software and hardware and validated infrastructure integrity and adherence to the stated no-logs policy. The audit announcement should be read alongside the auditor’s public report, which identifies Malwarebytes Inc. as the purchaser of AzireVPN and says Malwarebytes Privacy VPN leverages AzireVPN infrastructure.

The report provides independent evidence about the systems and policy within its documented assessment scope. It is not a guarantee of perfect security, and the audit date and scope matter when assessing a service whose software and infrastructure can change.
