How does checkout-page skimming work?
In a typical web-skimming attack, code running in a visitor’s browser copies information entered into a form while the legitimate checkout page may continue to function. In this incident, the reporting establishes that code on the SpeedTree checkout page was designed to collect purchase-form entries; it does not explain the specific code, how it was inserted, or how the compromise was discovered.
Does this mean Unity games, projects or computers were infected?
No such impact is established by the reporting. The reported compromise involved the SpeedTree website’s checkout page, not Unity-built games or customers’ computers. SecurityWeek also mentioned a separate Unity Editor vulnerability, but did not say that it caused the website compromise. Treat the checkout incident and the Editor issue as separate matters.

What should you do if you bought SpeedTree during the reported period?
- Check for a direct notice. Review your inbox and Unity account communications for a message from Unity about the incident. Follow the instructions in the notice; it is the best available way to confirm whether Unity contacted you as an impacted customer.
- Review the payment method you used. Check card activity for unfamiliar transactions. Contact the card issuer promptly about suspicious charges and ask whether replacing the card is appropriate.
- Be cautious with follow-up messages. Watch for unexpected Unity-themed emails or calls that mention a purchase or account details. Verify unusual payment or account requests through contact channels you already trust, rather than relying on links or phone numbers in an unsolicited message.
- Protect any reused account password. Change a password if you reused it elsewhere, and choose a unique one for each account. Turn on multi-factor authentication where available. An authenticator app or security key can help protect accounts, but MFA cannot undo information already copied from a checkout form.
- Review the notice for support details. Unity reportedly offered affected customers free credit monitoring and identity protection. Check your own notice for eligibility, enrollment instructions and terms.
What should security and finance teams check?
- Determine whether employees made SpeedTree purchases through the affected checkout between March 13 and August 26, 2025.
- Review any direct Unity notice alongside purchase receipts, procurement records and corporate-card activity.
- Tell employees who handle Unity invoices or procurement to verify unusual payment or account requests through established channels.
- Do not infer from this website incident alone that company Unity projects, source code or employee devices were affected.
