Make: Volume 92 is the magazine’s 20th anniversary issue and a broad guide to digital fabrication, covering laser cutters, 3D printers, CNC machines, and more than 23 projects. Its interactive launch party took place on February 20, 2025; the recording is listed on Make:’s YouTube channel.

What was covered in Make: Volume 92?

Make: describes Volume 92 as its annual digital fabrication deep dive, bringing together coverage of workshop machines and hands-on projects. The issue surveys laser cutters, 3D printers, and CNC equipment. It also includes a feature on laser safety and a comparison of what CO2, diode, and fiber lasers can cut or mark.

Other feature headings cover filament printers and CNC equipment, including a guide to building a handheld CNC router that helps guide cuts. The publisher presents the issue as both a look at fabrication tools and a collection of projects for makers.

Which projects are in the issue?

Make: advertises “over 23 projects” in Volume 92. Examples listed in its contents include:

The table of contents calls the turbine a “$50 Water Turbine” and says the project generates 200 watts. Those figures are the project’s stated description, not independent cost or output measurements.

Beyond project instructions, the issue features a vintage pinball restoration community, Fab Labs and the Maker Movement, and Make:’s 20-year history.

Which fabrication tools does Make: feature?

The issue overview’s Toolbox listings name the Prusa MK4S, xTool P2, Saturn 4 Ultra, xTool F1, and EM-Smart One. These are examples featured in the issue, not a current comparative recommendation or a ranking based on testing.

If you are using the issue to decide what equipment suits your workshop, start with the job and material rather than the model names. Compare the following factors across current manufacturer documentation:

  • Task and material: whether you need to cut, engrave, mark, print, or machine the material you plan to use.
  • Machine type: for lasers, distinguish CO2, diode, and fiber systems; for other work, consider whether a filament printer or CNC machine fits the process.
  • Work area and capacity: check the size and thickness of the work the machine can handle.
  • Safety: verify enclosure, ventilation, protective equipment, and relevant safety documentation for the machine and materials.
  • Software and workflow: confirm that the machine works with the design and control tools you intend to use.
  • Total cost: include necessary accessories, materials, ventilation, maintenance, and software—not only the machine’s listed price.

The issue’s event and overview pages do not give consistent current specifications or prices across the listed machines. Check manufacturers’ current documentation for features, safety certifications, availability, and cost before buying.
