Who should you level first in Lucky Defense?
Choose upgrades around the mode you are trying to clear and the team you are building. The detailed upgrade-order guide gives one sequence for Normal and a different one for Hard. The game’s official support pages explain progression systems, but do not prescribe which Guardian to level first.

Use the Normal sequence as an early investment path if you are progressing through that mode. The Hard sequence is a separate plan with higher level targets and different early priorities; it should not be read as an instruction to reset or replace a working roster.
Why the Normal route starts with Hailey, Kun, and Chu
Hailey to level 6
The Normal-mode guide says Hailey at level 6 doubles the attack boost from her Star Power passive. That makes the target meaningful as an early damage investment in the guide’s recommended sequence.

Master Kun to level 6
The same guide says Master Kun unlocks a passive ultimate at level 6 that adds spinning flames. This is a milestone-based upgrade rather than an arbitrary level target.
Rocket Chu to level 6
The guide reports that Rocket Chu’s Overclock success rate increases from 35% at level 1 to 50% at level 6. These percentages are guide-reported mechanics; check the in-game description in your version in case a patch has changed them.

How to adapt the route to your team
Physical damage versus magic damage
The upgrade guide describes Rocket Chu as a physical damage Guardian who needs defense reduction, while Hailey, Master Kun, and Taoist are described as magical damage dealers who do not benefit from that effect. Consider what your team actually deals before investing in support that reduces defense: it is useful only when it helps the damage type your carries use.
Include support, not just damage dealers
Kitty Mage appears early in the Hard route as a support investment. Pocket Gamer’s tier list describes her as MP-regeneration support for magic-focused teams, helping magic damage carries cast ultimates more often. It recommends level 12 and ranks her in S tier in its version 2.0.12 snapshot updated September 17, 2026. That is a current ranking signal for Kitty Mage, not confirmation of the complete older upgrade order.

What level 15 unlocks—and what counts toward Total Guardian Level
Level 15 is a later progression milestone, not a reason to skip the earlier mode-specific targets. According to 111Percent Support, reaching level 15 with a Mythic Guardian unlocks Immortal Guardians. Immortal Guardians have special summoning conditions, and only one of each type can be summoned; check those conditions in-game before planning around a specific one.

For Total Guardian Level, 111Percent Support says only Mythic and Immortal Guardian levels count. The total is visible in the Guardians tab, so leveling other rarities should not be mistaken for progress on that particular total.

The latest located ranking snapshot is Pocket Gamer’s tier list for version 2.0.12, updated September 17, 2026. It offers a current view of Guardian rankings and Kitty Mage’s support role. The detailed level-by-level Normal and Hard routes are older, unaffiliated community guidance hosted as 2025 material. Official support documents the level-15 unlock and Total Guardian Level rules, but does not establish a best upgrade order. As a result, the routes are useful starting points, not a verified optimal sequence for every roster in the current patch.
