To let a real player visit your LOTRO house, add that character in the home’s Permissions panel and grant Visitor access. That allows entry only: chest use, upkeep payments, decorating, and permission management are separate controls. NPC Neighbours use a different system, while kinship members can visit your designated Primary Residence through the Social Kinship panel.
How do I allow a friend to visit my LOTRO house?
- Open the Housing Management panel at your home and go to its Permissions panel.
- Add the friend’s character. Use the Individual option when granting access to one specific character.
- Enable Visitor. This lets that character enter the house.
- Grant any other permissions separately only if you want the visitor to have those capabilities.
Standing Stone Games’ LOTRO Housing FAQs describes access as controlled through housing permissions. It does not say that having someone on your Friends list automatically lets them enter, so use the house’s explicit Visitor permission.
What does Visitor permission let someone do?
Visitor means entry, not general control of the property. The Housing FAQs list these as separate permissions:
- Visitor: enter the house.
- Housing Chests: access housing storage.
- Upkeep: pay the house’s upkeep.
- Decorate: change house decorations.
- Manage Permissions: change who has access and what permissions they hold.
Give only the permissions that match what you want the character to do.

How can I visit a kinship member’s house?
A kinship member can use the Visit button in the Social Kinship panel to travel to that member’s designated Primary Residence. The house owner first needs to select a primary property in the Player House Info panel. LOTRO’s Update 27 Release Notes state that only one property can be primary at a time and that kinship properties cannot be selected. This kinship Visit route is separate from granting an individual character Visitor access.
How do NPC Neighbours visit your home?
NPC Neighbours are not player visitors. In LOTRO’s Aug. 2, 2026 Neighbours overview, a special invitation item placed on a housing hook invites that neighbour character to visit. The overview describes the feature as part of The Wolves of Mordor pre-release offerings; it does not by itself establish that the feature had launched or that every announced detail remained unchanged by Oct. 4, 2026.

The announced system is relationship gameplay: players can build relationships through missions or quests, stories, gifts, visits, and personal story adventures. The overview describes a daily selection of five Neighbour Missions. A later Neighbours guide dated Sep. 23, 2026 says neighbours have 21 personality traits; the Aug. 2 overview gives 20. Because the official descriptions conflict, 21 is the newer figure, not a number both sources agree on.

For broader housing context, LOTRO’s Update 48.1 Release Notes report that Rivendell Steadings opened on 64-bit worlds on Apr. 30, 2026, and that new neighborhoods open automatically when enough homes in existing neighborhoods have been purchased.
