Riot’s October 6 notes say this is the patch for “year-defining competitive play.” The changes most likely to matter are targeted nerfs to established picks such as Ambessa, K’Sante and Yunara; viability-focused buffs for Kennen and Kindred; and a Rocketbelt shift away from escape utility toward damage.
Worlds had not started as of October 7, 2026, so there are no tournament pick/ban rates or match results to confirm which changes will alter drafts. The breakdown below separates Riot’s stated intentions from what teams may do with them.
What is Patch 26.20, and when is it used at Worlds?
Riot identifies Patch 26.20 as the Summoner’s Rift patch for Worlds 2026. Its notes describe the balance changes as tuning for professional play: reducing the reliability of some established choices while improving champions Riot considers potentially close to viability. Those goals explain the direction of the changes, but do not establish that a champion will be picked, banned or dropped.
Riot’s Patch 26.20 notes were published October 6, 2026. The Worlds 2026 Primer schedules Play-Ins for October 15–18, Swiss for October 23–31, and Knockouts for November 3–14. That schedule is not evidence of tournament performance; draft conclusions require games to be played.

Which champion nerfs could affect Worlds drafts?
These changes target damage, lane resources or reliability. The competitive consequence will depend on whether teams can still draft around each champion’s strengths.
Ambessa: less passive damage, especially as she scales
Drakehound’s Step damage falls from 5–30 (+25% bonus AD) to 5–25 (+20% bonus AD). Riot says Ambessa’s late-game output has been too reliable for high-mastery players, particularly in pro play. This directly trims her passive damage contribution; it does not show that teams will stop drafting her.
Ashe: a small reduction to level-based damage
Attack damage growth drops from 3.5 to 3 per level. Riot describes Ashe as a premier pro-play marksman whose raw damage is excessive given her utility. Her scaling damage is reduced while her utility role remains intact.

Cassiopeia: less health and mana for early lane
Base health falls from 630 to 610, and base mana from 480 to 450. Riot’s stated target is her dominant early laning and its resource demands. The patch signals more lane pressure as an intended trade-off, not a measured change to matchups.

K’Sante: less dependable defense and higher W costs
W mana costs rise at every rank, from 40/45/50/55/60 to 45/50/55/60/65. Its damage reduction changes from 30/75% to 25/70%. Riot wants to make him less reliable as a coordinated-play blind pick by targeting early mana and consistent damage reduction. Whether that changes his draft priority is not yet known.
Yunara: less on-hit damage and no stacking W slows
Both Q passive and active on-hit damage fall from 5/10/15/20/25 (+20% AP) to 3/8/13/18/23 (+20% AP). Yunara’s W slow no longer stacks with other slows. Riot says it is trying to prevent a low-interaction “handshake hyperscaler do nothing” pattern. These changes push against that pattern, but do not establish who will hold bot-lane priority at Worlds.

Which buffs could broaden champion options?
Riot says several buffs are intended to help weaker champions or support a particular build. They create possibilities for drafts, not confirmed Worlds picks.
Kennen: more attack speed and support for AD builds
E bonus attack speed increases by 10 percentage points at every rank, from 40/50/60/70/80% to 50/60/70/80/90%. W passive damage changes from 40/50/60/70/80% total AD to 25/40/55/70/85 plus 100% bonus AD. Riot specifically says it wants to help AD Kennen and offset some of Rocketbelt’s downside. The changes may make that version more attractive, but tournament adoption remains unverified.

W’s monster damage modifier rises from 150% to 165%, and E’s slow lasts 1.5 seconds rather than 1 second. The small-monster targeting mechanic is removed. Riot calls Kindred weak and says the changes are designed not to make early invades much more overwhelming. A Worlds appearance is possible, not established.

Other champion buffs on Summoner’s Rift
Riot also buffs a broad group of champions. The notes give individual rationales, but the changes alone are not grounds to label all of them likely Worlds picks.
- Diana: W’s bonus-health shield ratio rises from 11% to 14%.
- Lillia: R duration changes from 2.5 seconds to 2.5/2.75/3 seconds.
- Lucian: Attack-damage growth rises from 2.5 to 2.9 per level.
- Mordekaiser: Q gains more scaling at levels 10–20; R cooldowns fall at ranks one and two.
- Neeko: E damage and empowered-root duration increase.
- Swain: Base magic resistance rises, base armor falls, and W damage increases while its cooldown decreases.
- Tahm Kench: Q healing increases.
- Vayne: Health regeneration improves, and Q has a flat 30-mana cost.
Smolder: a nudge toward crit builds
Riot adjusts Smolder’s passive and ultimate scaling to better support crit builds relative to bruiser builds. That is a build-direction signal, not proof that teams will switch items or that the build will outperform in tournament games.
Nautilus: stronger W and broader role encouragement
Nautilus’s W receives increased damage over time and improved shield bonus-health scaling and duration, alongside bug fixes. Riot says he is weak in support, jungle and top, and wants to encourage the latter two roles. The stated aim is to open up role options; actual role usage at Worlds is not yet known.

How do item changes alter the balance between damage, escape and durability?
The item updates have different effects depending on who buys them. Rocketbelt is a trade-off rather than a universal nerf, while the ranged Hexplate change is aimed specifically at ranged users.
| Item or system | Patch 26.20 change | Potential Worlds relevance |
|---|---|---|
| Hextech Rocketbelt | Ability haste falls from 20 to 10; active damage rises from 100 (+10% AP) to 135 (+15% AP). | Riot wants less generic escape value and more incentive for aggressive use, especially for AP bruisers built around all-ins. Users who rely on its mobility or haste may value it differently from champions seeking active damage. |
| Experimental Hexplate | Ranged-user modifier falls from 70% to 50% of value. | Ranged users get less of its attack-speed and movement-speed benefit. Riot cites ranged first-rush top-lane resilience and all-in lethality as the target. |
| Runaan’s Hurricane | Attack damage per bolt falls from 65% to 60%. | Riot calls the previous item state slightly overbuffed; the change reduces bolt damage. |
| Spirit Visage | Health regeneration rises from 4 to 20 per five seconds. | Part of Riot’s increase to health regeneration on selected tank items. |
| Force of Nature | Health regeneration rises from 20 to 40 per five seconds. | Part of the same selected tank-item regeneration increase. |
| Warmog’s Armor | Health regeneration rises from 10 to 30 per five seconds. | Part of the same selected tank-item regeneration increase. |
What else changes in Patch 26.20?
Scoreboard item counters are simplified
Riot hides many item counters from scoreboard icons while retaining strategically relevant counters, including those for Tear items and Mejai’s. This is a readability update, not a balance change.
Replay access becomes private
With Patch 26.20, players can access replays only from matches they played. Other players and third-party apps or sites lose replay-download access. Riot says the change addresses security vulnerabilities; players can still download and watch their own replays in the client. This affects viewers and analysts who rely on other players’ replay files, but does not alter champion balance.
Other game modes and cosmetics
Patch 26.20 also includes Classic, ARAM and ARAM: Mayhem changes, plus digital cosmetics. Those updates are outside Summoner’s Rift Worlds balance analysis.

Before the first scheduled match, the defensible conclusion is about direction, not results: Riot is trimming reliability or scaling on selected established picks, trying to curb a low-interaction Yunara pattern, and raising the potential of Kennen and Kindred. Rocketbelt’s shift from haste and escape utility toward active damage may also change which users find it worthwhile. None of these intentions proves a change in pick/ban priority.
Once Worlds games begin, useful evidence will include champion and role, pick and ban frequency, lane matchups and early resource pressure, scaling versus early tempo, the value teams get from engage or escape tools, and whether buffs create genuine alternative picks. The published event schedule supplies dates and format, not those champion-performance statistics.
