The Logitech MX Master 3 remains a productivity-focused wireless mouse with a useful feature set for everyday work, but buyers should weigh reports of inconsistent scrolling and check that they are comparing the original model—not the newer MX Master 3S. The 3S adds a higher-resolution sensor and quieter clicks; whether those upgrades matter depends on your needs and the current local price.
What the MX Master 3 is best at
RTINGS describes the MX Master 3 as a capable mouse for everyday use. Its appeal is centered on productivity rather than gaming: it is a model to consider if your work involves frequent scrolling and general computer use. One issue deserves attention before buying: RTINGS added discussion of commonly reported inconsistent or erratic scroll-wheel behavior in an update dated October 2, 2024. That is a reported behavior, not evidence that every unit fails. The source does not establish a defect rate, a cause, or how likely an individual buyer is to encounter it.
MX Master 3 vs. MX Master 3S
The MX Master 3S is a separate, newer model—not a renamed listing for the original. Logitech and RTINGS identify meaningful differences, so check the exact model name and included receiver when comparing listings.

Choose based on the difference that matters to you
- Consider the MX Master 3 if its features suit your work and it is available at a worthwhile price. Confirm the listing is for the original model.
- Consider the MX Master 3S if you want its 8000 DPI sensor, quieter clicks, or Logi Options+ software.
- Check the receiver before purchase if you need to use a particular receiver or already have a multi-device setup. The models use different receiver generations, and compatibility should not be assumed from a similar appearance.
- Compare current local prices rather than relying on an assumed price advantage for the older model; current inventory and pricing are not established here.
Battery claim: note the business variant
Logitech’s October 7, 2021 data sheet for the MX Master 3 for Business specifies a USB-C rechargeable 500 mAh battery and up to 70 days on a full charge. These are manufacturer specifications for that business variant, not independent runtime tests or a guarantee for every user’s use pattern or every retail package. Verdict
The MX Master 3 is a reasonable productivity-mouse candidate if its everyday-use feature set fits your work and you find the original model at a price that makes sense. Its scroll wheel’s reported inconsistent behavior is worth factoring into the decision, while the 3S is the clearer choice if you specifically want the higher-resolution sensor or quieter clicks. Confirm both the model and receiver in the listing before ordering.
