If your Livepush stream will not start on YouTube, first find where the signal stops: between your encoder and Livepush, or between Livepush and YouTube. Check the source connection, the specific YouTube destination and event, and then the stream key or transport settings only if the error points there. This order helps avoid changing working settings on the wrong side of the relay.
1. Find where the stream stops
Livepush is an intermediary: an encoder sends video to Livepush, and Livepush forwards it to configured destinations. Its dashboard reports connection analytics between the source device, Livepush, and destinations. Use those statuses to locate the break before changing settings. Livepush describes this source-to-service-to-destination workflow.
- If the source is not reaching Livepush, troubleshoot the encoder and its connection first.
- If the source reaches Livepush but YouTube does not receive it, inspect the YouTube destination, account or event configuration, and any relevant key or transport error.
2. Check the encoder-to-Livepush connection
Confirm that your encoder is open, streaming, and sending the intended source to Livepush. Livepush says an encoder is required and lists OBS, Streamlabs OBS, XSplit, Wirecast, and vMix as examples. Check the encoder’s own connection status and output, then compare it with the source status in Livepush. Livepush’s service overview
- If the encoder reports a connection error or Livepush does not show the source, correct that connection before editing YouTube settings.
- If the encoder preview or output reports errors, inspect the encoder and its load. YouTube recommends updating the encoder and checking its output and CPU load. If its output looks and sounds healthy but the stream still cannot reach the destination, test outbound internet connectivity; contact your internet provider if the test identifies a connection problem. 3. Check the YouTube destination and setup method
Livepush’s connected-account flow and manual stream-key flow have different failure points. Follow the path you actually configured; do not treat a connected account and a manually entered event key as interchangeable.

If you connected your YouTube account
- In Livepush, check whether the Google/YouTube account remains connected. Livepush identifies a disconnected social account as a common reason a connection stops.
- Reconnect the account if needed, then save the destination again.
- Confirm the YouTube destination is enabled. In the connected flow, link Google/YouTube, select or create the live event, set its details and privacy, save, and enable the destination. Livepush: connect social accounts
If you entered a stream key manually
- Confirm live streaming is enabled for your YouTube channel. Livepush says enabling live streaming on a new account can take up to 24 hours.
- In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select the event you intend to stream and copy that event’s stream key.
- In Livepush, open the YouTube destination for the event, enter the matching key, save the destination, and turn its switch on. Livepush says manual destinations must be set up for each event. Livepush: create a manual live stream
Double-check that the selected event, key, and enabled destination all refer to the same intended broadcast. Do not share a stream key publicly.
4. Refresh the key if YouTube reports an encoder start error
If YouTube shows an “error when starting your encoder,” refresh the stream key in YouTube Live Control Room and update the third-party encoder with the new key. YouTube gives this as a troubleshooting step for an encoder start error. 5. Check RTMPS only when it applies
Do not change transport settings unless your encoder is configured to use RTMPS or the error concerns SSL, a timeout, or the server URL. In YouTube Live Control Room, copy the RTMPS URL for the actual event and verify that your encoder supports RTMPS. Use the event’s URL rather than an example hostname.
- SSL error: YouTube advises verifying that the URL uses RTMPS; it also mentions port 443 as a configuration to try.
- Connection timed out: Verify the server URL and confirm that the encoder supports RTMPS.
These checks are specific to RTMPS. They will not correct a disconnected account, disabled destination, incorrect event key, or a source that never reaches Livepush. YouTube Help: RTMPS ingestion

6. Match the fix to the symptom

7. Escalate with the failure point identified
If the connected-account flow still fails, Livepush provides a help-center live chat route. If a third-party encoder’s login-based connection to YouTube fails, YouTube says to contact that software provider. When asking for help, include the status or error you see and whether the source feed reaches Livepush.
