The “tiny camera rig” is VideoStitch’s Orah 4i, a compact 360-degree camera system described in 2016. To stream 360 video for a VR headset, you need more than a camera: the production chain also needs stitching and encoding, a media server, delivery to viewers, and a 360-capable player. Wowza’s documented example uses an Insta360 Pro 2, RTMP ingest, HLS playback and a player configured for 360 video.

What is the tiny Orah 4i camera rig?

VideoStitch’s Orah 4i was designed as a compact 360-degree live-streaming system. Futurism’s April 8, 2016 report described a small camera body with a tripod mount and four f/2.0 fisheye lenses. Four ambisonic microphones captured spatial audio, while two Ambarella video chips handled video processing. A separate stitching box housed an Intel CPU, Nvidia GPU and 120GB SSD; one Ethernet cable carried data and power between the camera and box. Futurism’s Orah 4i report quoted its intended design as “small, inconspicuous, and able to blend in.”

This layout is important: the camera itself was only one part of the rig. Stitching—the process of combining overlapping views from multiple lenses into a continuous 360-degree image—happened with help from the separate processing box. The report is historical, and current retail availability or support for the Orah 4i is not established here.

What equipment and services does a live VR stream need?

A live 360 production has five practical stages. Every stage must work with the next: a camera’s output must be stitched and encoded, accepted by a server, delivered to viewers, and displayed by software that understands 360 video.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  1. Capture: A 360 camera records the scene. Wowza’s documented workflow uses the Insta360 Pro 2.
  2. Stitch and encode: Camera footage is combined into a 360-degree view and encoded into a stream. Depending on the camera and workflow, processing may happen in the camera or in external equipment.
  3. Ingest and streaming server: The encoded stream is sent to a media server. Wowza’s examples use RTMP for ingest and describe Wowza Video or Wowza Streaming Engine as server options.
  4. Delivery: A content-delivery network (CDN) distributes the stream to viewers. Wowza’s Video example includes Wowza CDN.
  5. Playback: Viewers need a 360-capable player, in a browser or on a VR headset. Wowza’s example uses THEOplayer for browser playback.

These are functional roles rather than a requirement to buy one particular set of products. The key is to verify compatibility across the camera’s output, ingest protocol, server configuration, delivery format and player. Wowza outlines the workflow in its Wowza Video tutorial.

How does the Wowza 4K example work?

In Wowza’s 2020 Streaming Engine tutorial, the Insta360 Pro 2 is configured for a custom RTMP server and 3840×2160 output—commonly called 4K. Wowza Streaming Engine receives the stream, and HLS is used for playback. The tutorial also describes a low-latency HLS option: in that demonstrated configuration, Wowza says delay can fall from the usual 30–45 seconds to roughly 10–15 seconds. Those are example figures, not guaranteed performance; actual delay depends on the network, encoding, server and player settings.

For the detailed setup, follow Wowza’s Streaming Engine tutorial. The sequence is to configure the camera’s custom RTMP destination and output resolution, make sure the server accepts the ingest, configure HLS delivery, and test playback in a 360-compatible player. A stream can reach a player without being presented correctly as immersive video if the player or stream metadata is not configured for 360 playback.

How should you choose between a compact rig and a current camera workflow?

The Orah 4i and Wowza’s Insta360 Pro 2 example represent different kinds of evidence: the first is a 2016 description of a camera-plus-stitching-box rig, while the second is a 2020 tutorial documenting a specific live-stream configuration. The available details do not establish a like-for-like performance comparison, current prices or present-day availability.
