The company describes it as a configurable coolant distribution unit (CDU) intended to support multiple current and emerging AI silicon platforms from one architecture, with end-of-row or rack-adjacent installation options. CDU 2.X is available for preorder, and LiquidStack expects shipments to begin in Q2 2027.
What LiquidStack announced
CDU 2.X is a liquid-cooling platform for data centers. A CDU moves heat from liquid-cooled IT equipment into a facility’s cooling system; its role is to manage the coolant loop serving servers or racks. LiquidStack says CDU 2.X is designed to accommodate changing AI hardware and rack densities without requiring operators to redesign their broader cooling approach each time a platform changes. That flexibility is the company’s stated aim, not an independently verified result.
At the announcement, Scott Smith, LiquidStack’s general manager at Trane Technologies, said: “Operators need cooling infrastructure that can adapt as GPU platforms and rack densities evolve.” He added that customers could configure cooling around their facility and deployment strategy rather than designing the facility around the CDU. This summarizes the product’s positioning; the reviewed coverage does not include independent testing of those claimed benefits.
What the announced specifications and options mean
Deployment location and architecture
LiquidStack says CDU 2.X supports end-of-row and rack-adjacent deployment. End-of-row equipment serves racks from a unit positioned at the end of an aisle, while rack-adjacent placement brings the unit closer to the racks it serves. The company also describes the design as architecture-agnostic and intended to work with multiple current and emerging AI silicon platforms. It has not published a complete compatibility list in the reviewed material.

Facility temperature and flow claims
LiquidStack’s announcement says facility inlet temperatures can reach up to 45°C and that the design supports lower approach temperatures. Network World reports a maximum flow rate of 3,750 liters per minute at 3.5 bar, attributing that specification to LiquidStack. These are vendor-reported specifications; the available sources do not provide independent measurements, test conditions, or CDU 2.X deployment results that validate them.
Power and resilience choices
The company lists configurable control-valve, power-feed, and redundancy options. Dual-feed A/B and automatic transfer switch options are intended to let customers align the unit with different facility power and resilience designs. The announcement does not supply detailed configuration matrices or explain which options are included in particular orders.

Availability and what buyers still need to establish
LiquidStack says CDU 2.X is available for preorder and expects shipments to start in Q2 2027. The reviewed announcement and coverage do not state a price, detailed ordering terms, or a named customer deployment. Operators evaluating the platform would need to obtain configuration-specific commercial details and establish how its specifications map to their own facility, rack design, and resilience requirements.
For a procurement comparison, useful evaluation points include compatibility with the target AI hardware, end-of-row versus rack-adjacent placement, power and redundancy options, temperature and flow requirements, delivery timing, and the evidence supporting performance claims. The reviewed material does not provide a competitor comparison or independently measured efficiency data for CDU 2.X.

CDU 2.X is different from GigaModular
LiquidStack’s earlier GigaModular system is a separate product, not another name for CDU 2.X. LiquidStack unveiled GigaModular in June 2025 as a modular direct-to-chip CDU with capacity of up to 10 MW at announcement. In a May 21, 2026 update, the company said GigaModular was commercially available with expanded capacity up to 14 MW, had completed multi-module integration and full-load testing for deployments up to that capacity, and had achieved ETL certification. Those capacity, testing, availability, and certification statements apply to GigaModular, not CDU 2.X.
Similarly, LiquidStack reported on January 6, 2026 that it had received an order for 300 MW of CDU capacity from an unnamed major U.S. data-center operator. The company specified CDU-1MW for that order; the announcement does not identify it as an order for CDU 2.X. LiquidStack also said it was included on NVIDIA’s Recommended Vendor List for CDUs.
