The Linux Foundation’s Advanced Cloud Engineer IT Professional Program combines six self-paced courses with the Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) exam. Its curriculum progresses from containers and Kubernetes fundamentals to service mesh, monitoring, cloud-native logging and Helm. The Linux Foundation’s 2024 study plan lays out a recommended 26-week sequence; that is a suggested pace, not a guaranteed finish time.
What the program includes
The program is a paid, intermediate-level learning credential. According to the Linux Foundation credential record on Credly, earning it requires completing the self-paced e-learning courses and passing the CKA exam. The Linux Foundation study plan lists these six courses:
| Course | Focus |
|---|---|
| Containers Fundamentals (LFS253) | Container concepts and foundations |
| Kubernetes Fundamentals (LFS258) | Kubernetes concepts and foundations |
| Service Mesh Fundamentals (LFS243) | Service mesh concepts |
| Monitoring Systems and Services with Prometheus (LFS241) | Monitoring with Prometheus |
| Cloud Native Logging with Fluentd and Fluent Bit (LFS242) | Cloud-native logging |
| Managing Kubernetes Applications with Helm (LFS244) | Packaging and managing Kubernetes applications with Helm |
Together, the courses cover container and Kubernetes foundations, service networking, observability, logging and application management. The program is not just a course-completion badge: the CKA exam is a required part of the credential.
How the recommended 26-week plan is sequenced
The Linux Foundation’s 2024 plan assigns study blocks across 26 recommended weeks. Use the schedule as pacing guidance rather than a promise about how long you will need; your preparation time and progress may differ.
#1 Best Overall
| Recommended weeks | Plan activity |
|---|---|
| 1–4 | Containers Fundamentals |
| 5–9 | Kubernetes Fundamentals; schedule the CKA exam by week 7 |
| 10 | Take the CKA exam |
| 11–15 | Service Mesh Fundamentals |
| 16–19 | Monitoring Systems and Services with Prometheus |
| 20–23 | Cloud Native Logging with Fluentd and Fluent Bit |
| 24–26 | Managing Kubernetes Applications with Helm |
An earlier 2023 study-plan PDF gives substantially the same course order and weekly ranges, supporting the sequence as a recurring plan rather than an individual learner’s timetable: 2023 Advanced Cloud Engineer study plan.
What the CKA assessment involves
Credly describes the CKA as a two-hour, online, proctored, performance-based exam involving command-line problems. That format assesses practical Kubernetes work rather than relying only on course completion. Passing it, along with completing the courses, is part of the stated credential criteria.

Who it may suit—and what to verify
The Linux Foundation positioned the program in its 2020 announcement for experienced IT professionals moving into cloud engineering. That historical description indicates the intended audience, but it is not a verified current admission-requirements list. Current prerequisites for the courses and exam were not established in the available official materials, so check the current course and exam pages before enrolling if you need to confirm eligibility.
Likewise, the 2020 announcement described online delivery, 12 months of access, a dedicated forum and live virtual instructor office hours five days a week. A forum welcome post said the office hours were for questions and lab work, not instructor-led classes. These are historical descriptions, not confirmation of current access or support terms. Verify those details directly with the Linux Foundation before purchase.

Price and availability
The Linux Foundation’s Cyber Week 2025 promotion listed the program at $1,250, discounted to $500, and described it as six courses plus the CKA exam. That offer ended December 9, 2025, so those figures are a historical promotion, not a current price quote. Current enrollment availability, price, discounts and regional terms were not verified.

Quick Recap
Best Value
- Quick reference guide
- 4-page laminated Guide is an invaluable resource to any high-level computer user or programmer who requires quick reference to terms and fundamental programming language concepts.
- The ASCII Standard Library Functions and Flow Control are given particular emphasis
- Easy-to-read layout to promote faster learning and memory retention.

- Curriculum scope: Check whether you want the sequence from containers and Kubernetes into service mesh, monitoring, logging and Helm.
- Assessment: Confirm whether a required certification exam is included and whether its format suits your preparation style. Here, the credential requires passing the CKA, described as a two-hour online proctored performance exam.
- Pacing: Treat the 26-week plan as a recommendation and decide whether its staged schedule works with your available study time.
- Current terms and total cost: Confirm present enrollment availability, price, prerequisites, access period, support arrangements and any exam or retake terms directly before committing. The historical sources do not establish those current details.
