Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

The value depends on the exact generation, GPU and local price. A Gen 10 RTX 5060 review unit ran hot and shipped with single-channel memory; a separate Gen 11 RTX 5070 12GB review unit delivered strong results and a bright display, but demanding settings could still push games below 60fps. Compare the precise SKU with similarly priced alternatives before buying.
Which Legion 5i does this verdict cover?
Legion 5i is a model family, not one fixed specification. Lenovo’s U.S. listing covers the Legion 5i Gen 10 (15-inch Intel) with RTX 5060 and RTX 5070 Laptop GPU options. Lenovo’s 2025 datasheet and PSREF list the Gen 10 RTX 5070 configuration with 8GB GDDR7 and 115W TGP. A later Gen 11 review unit tested by Tom’s Guide had an RTX 5070 with 12GB, so the name “RTX 5070 Legion 5i” alone does not identify the graphics memory or performance. Lenovo notes that specifications may change; confirm the regional model and full configuration on the official Legion 5i listing and PSREF.
The figures below describe two distinct review units. They are useful indicators of what those configurations achieved, not interchangeable benchmarks for every Legion 5i or a guarantee of results in another game.

Gen 10 RTX 5060: useful results, with test-specific caveats
PC Gamer’s Gen 10 RTX 5060 review includes a native-resolution gaming aggregate of 64 average-FPS index and 32 1% low index. These are review-specific aggregate figures, not a frame rate for an individual title. The results include DLSS and frame generation where applicable, so they should not be treated as a direct comparison with tests that use different settings or omit those features. PC Gamer also compared the Legion with the MSI Katana 15 HX and Asus TUF Gaming A16 in its benchmark tables.

Gen 11 RTX 5070 12GB: strong, but settings still matter
Tom’s Guide reported an average of 10,394 across seven 3DMark tests for its Gen 11 review unit. In its game tests, that unit reached 44.1 FPS in Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p RT Ultra, 27 FPS in Black Myth: Wukong at 1600p Cinematic, and 50 FPS in Forza Horizon 6 at 1080p Extreme with ray tracing. At 1600p, Final Fantasy XIV peaked above 100fps and settled around 90fps in most zones. These mixed outcomes show why a single benchmark score cannot answer whether a laptop will run a particular game smoothly: title, resolution, preset, ray tracing and upscaling all matter. Tom’s Guide found that some demanding games struggled to exceed 60fps at maximum resolution, while reducing settings made them playable.
Is the display good enough for gaming and other work?
Tom’s Guide measured 491 nits average brightness, 137.5% DCI-P3 color-gamut coverage and 1,049 nits peak HDR brightness on its Gen 11 review unit. Those results suggest a bright, color-rich screen on that tested configuration, but they do not establish the panel specifications for every Gen 10 or Gen 11 SKU. Check the listed panel and resolution for the exact model you are considering; do not assume that every Legion 5i has the reviewed display.

What are the heat, noise and memory trade-offs?
Thermals and fan noise
Under PC Gamer’s load test, the Gen 10 RTX 5060 review unit reached a maximum CPU temperature of 99°C. In gaming, the reviewer reported average temperatures of 81°C on the GPU and 76°C on the CPU, and described the laptop as loud under load. These measurements and impressions apply to that unit and test conditions; they do not establish temperatures or noise for the Gen 11 RTX 5070 configuration.
Memory configuration and upgrades
PC Gamer found its Gen 10 test unit had single-channel RAM and discussed adding a compatible module. Single-channel memory can be a practical drawback if you expect the laptop to arrive ready for an optimized configuration. Before buying or upgrading, check the exact SKU’s official PSREF for supported DDR5 SODIMM specifications, memory slots and installed layout; do not assume those details are identical across generations. Storage expansion also depends on the model: the available sources do not establish M.2 slot count or SSD compatibility across the family, so verify the specific PSREF before choosing a drive.

How long does the Gen 11 last away from an outlet?
Tom’s Guide measured 7 hours 3 minutes in its web-surfing battery test and 1 hour 27 minutes in its PCMark 10 gaming battery test on the Gen 11 RTX 5070 review unit. These are results from two distinct test protocols, not a promise of everyday runtime. In particular, the gaming result is a reminder to treat unplugged play as a limited-use option rather than expect desktop-like gaming autonomy. The measurements do not establish battery life for other Legion 5i configurations.
Is the Legion 5i worth its price?
That depends on the exact local price and configuration. Lenovo’s listing confirms Gen 10 RTX 5060 and RTX 5070 options, but does not provide a stable street price to compare here. Since the country, SKU and competitor prices are unspecified, a universal value ranking would be misleading. Compare the actual offer against similarly priced laptops in your market using the same GPU generation and VRAM, native-resolution game tests and settings, display panel and brightness, cooling and noise, RAM layout and upgradeability, and battery-test method.
- Consider a Gen 10 RTX 5060 model if its price is compelling against comparable laptops and its display and game performance fit your needs. Factor in the tested configuration’s high CPU temperature under load and single-channel RAM, and verify whether the retail SKU shares those details.
- Consider a Gen 11 RTX 5070 12GB model if the specific 12GB configuration is competitively priced and its bright display and tested gaming performance suit your games. Do not use its results to predict performance or VRAM in a Gen 10 RTX 5070 model.
- Look elsewhere or wait for a better deal if the Legion costs more than comparable configurations without a compensating advantage you value, or if you need sustained high frame rates at maximum resolution, quiet operation under load, or extended gaming away from power.
For any candidate, confirm the complete model number, GPU memory, display option, RAM arrangement and current local price before purchase. The best Legion 5i is the specific SKU whose performance and features justify its price—not the one with the broadest family name.
