The Lenovo Googlebook 15 is a premium laptop running Google’s new Googlebook OS experience, while a Chromebook runs ChromeOS. Google’s clearest distinction is deeper integration with Android phones: Googlebooks are designed to hand off tasks, surface phone files, and let users interact with phone apps on the laptop. That does not make Chromebooks obsolete or incapable of offline work or Android apps.
What is the difference between a Googlebook and a Chromebook?
Google describes Googlebooks as a new class of premium laptops combining ChromeOS strengths with Android technology. Its enterprise notice says Googlebook OS builds on the ChromeOS foundation and Android technology stack; it is a new system experience, not simply a Chromebook renamed. Google’s Googlebook product FAQ emphasizes cross-device continuity as the practical distinction.
| Area | Googlebook | Chromebook |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Googlebook OS, which Google says combines the ChromeOS foundation with Android technology. | ChromeOS. |
| Phone integration | Google highlights continuing tasks from an Android phone, accessing phone files in the laptop file manager, and interacting with phone apps from the laptop. | Google describes Chromebook phone connectivity as standard mobile-device connectivity; some Chromebooks also support Android apps. |
| Offline use | Google’s product description focuses on integration; it does not establish a blanket offline capability difference. | Google documents offline-ready activities including Gmail, Keep, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Calendar, photo editing, and local media playback, depending on setup and availability. |
| Support path | Google has announced the platform and a planned management rollout, but the published notice does not establish final migration eligibility for every Chromebook. | Existing devices continue receiving updates for their supported lifetimes under Google’s Auto Update policy. |
Google’s Chromebook guidance confirms that some models run Android apps, so “Googlebook has apps, Chromebook does not” is not an accurate comparison. The distinction Google advertises is more integrated access and continuity across devices, rather than the simple presence or absence of apps. See Google’s Chromebook overview.

Battery claims
Lenovo’s announcement claims up to 12.5 hours of battery life, while Google’s product page claims up to 13 hours. Google’s page footnote says its figure is based on controlled web-browsing tests; actual results may be lower and vary with network, location, settings, and use. Neither maximum should be treated as a guaranteed runtime for every workload.

Choose a Chromebook if ChromeOS already meets your needs
A Chromebook remains the straightforward choice for everyday ChromeOS use, including Google services and offline-ready tasks supported by Google’s guidance. If your needs are browsing, documents, media, and basic phone connectivity, Google’s stated Googlebook distinction may not justify changing devices. Check a particular Chromebook’s Android app support and update-support end date rather than assuming all models behave alike.
For schools and businesses, check the management timeline
Google’s Chrome Enterprise and Education notice, updated September 23, 2026, says existing Chromebooks will continue receiving updates through their supported lifetimes. It says many newer models may be eligible to transition to Googlebook OS, with eligibility details to come. Google planned the first wave of core Googlebook management capabilities for the second half of 2027. Treat that as a published plan, not a guarantee of migration for every model or a completed management rollout. Schools and organizations should confirm device eligibility and required management features before choosing around a transition.

Is the Lenovo Googlebook 15 worth paying more for?
It may be worth considering if the Android integration and premium display address needs you actually have. The available official material establishes the specifications and manufacturer battery claims, but not independent comparative benchmarks or hands-on results showing that it is faster or better value than a particular Chromebook. Compare current local prices, exact configurations, and your phone workflow; do not infer a performance advantage from the NPU specification alone.
Google’s UK-oriented Googlebook comparison page lists five Googlebook configurations, but its regional prices should not be applied to US listings or other markets.
