Choose LEGO PlayStation set 72306 if you want a newer, smaller display model and your nostalgia is tied to the original PlayStation, Gran Turismo, or Ape Escape. Choose LEGO Atari 2600 set 10306 if you prefer Atari games, a joystick and cartridges, and a larger scene-rich build—and are willing to look for a set LEGO marks retired in its US and Ireland stores.

The Atari model is larger in all three stated dimensions and has 621 more pieces. Those differences describe size and piece count—not build time, sturdiness, or which set is better value.
Which set fits your kind of nostalgia?
Choose PlayStation for Gran Turismo and Ape Escape
The 72306 build represents the original PlayStation console and controller at near 1:1 scale. LEGO includes hidden buildable scenes inspired by Gran Turismo and Ape Escape, making this the more natural pick if those games—or the first PlayStation itself—are the reason you want a console display model. The LEGO announcement also specifies a controller that plugs into the console and functional Open and Power buttons. LEGO’s 3 September 2026 announcement has the set details.
Choose Atari for cartridges, joystick, and game scenes
Set 10306 centers on the Atari 2600 and its era: it includes a joystick, cartridges for Asteroids, Adventure, and Centipede, three game-themed scenes, and a concealed 1980s room. LEGO also describes functioning front switches. If those games and period details matter more to you than PlayStation’s smaller footprint, Atari offers the more elaborate nostalgic display. LEGO identified Chris McVeigh as the set’s designer; McVeigh recalled receiving an Atari 2600 as a child and spending hours playing games at home. How much display space do they need?
LEGO gives the PlayStation dimensions as over 6 cm high, 26 cm wide, and 19 cm deep. The Atari 2600 is over 8 cm high, 33 cm wide, and 22 cm deep. In practical terms, Atari takes up more shelf space in height, width, and depth; measure the spot you have available before choosing it.
Both are display builds, not playable game hardware. Their buttons, switches, controller, joystick, and game references are model details rather than a way to play the original games.

PlayStation: announced regional RRP and purchase date
LEGO announced a recommended retail price of £139.99 in the UK, €159.99 in Europe, and $179.99 in the US. It announced general purchase from 4 October 2026 through LEGO.com, LEGO Stores, and select retailers. These are announced RRPs and sales channels, not a guarantee of stock or a retailer’s current selling price. The figures and date come from LEGO’s 3 September 2026 announcement.
Atari: retired status makes the actual listing matter
LEGO’s US and Ireland product pages reviewed on 7 October 2026 label set 10306 retired. LEGO’s 2022 announcement gave its original RRP as $239.99 in the US and €239.99 in Europe. The US product page still displays $239.99 while marking the set retired; that displayed figure is not a current secondhand-market quote or confirmation that the set is available to buy. Check the US LEGO listing and Ireland LEGO listing for their stated status.

For Atari, assess an actual seller’s current price, condition, and what is included before deciding. Retired-set listings can vary, and the official page’s displayed price should not be used as a stand-in for a resale comparison.

For most buyers choosing between these two displays, the deciding questions are which console’s games feel personal, how much shelf space is available, and whether searching for a retired set is acceptable. Pick PlayStation for a newer, smaller model with Gran Turismo and Ape Escape nods; pick Atari for its broader game-and-room display if you can find a listing whose seller, condition, and price work for you.
