There is no standard price for replacing a laptop screen: the total depends on the exact model, display specifications, the failed component, parts availability, and labor. One repairer in Erina, New South Wales, lists fitted replacements from AUD 180 and gives a recent high-spec gaming display as an example costing more than AUD 900. Those are local, provider-specific examples—not a U.S. average or a universal price range. For an accurate quote, provide the laptop’s full model number and confirm which display component needs repair.
What does laptop screen replacement cost?
The available published examples below come from iFix Electronics Erina, an independent repairer serving the Central Coast of New South Wales. Its prices are in Australian dollars and depend on the panel. They should not be treated as typical prices for other regions or repair providers.
| Published example | What the figure covers | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| AUD 180 | Starting price for a laptop screen replacement, fitted | iFix Electronics Erina’s stated starting price in 2026; varies by panel and applies to its service area. |
| More than AUD 900 | Replacement of a recent 16-inch QHD 240 Hz OLED gaming display, fitted | iFix Electronics Erina’s 2026 example, not a general ceiling or standard quote. |
| AUD 80–150 extra | Typical additional charge for touchscreen support | iFix Electronics Erina’s stated 2026 premium; not an industry-wide rate. |
The sources available do not establish a reliable current U.S.-wide average. Lenovo’s general repair guidance says screen-repair cost depends on the model, age, and severity of the damage, rather than publishing a universal price.
What determines the quote?
The exact laptop and panel
A replacement has to match the laptop’s display configuration. The model, panel part number, size, resolution, refresh rate, display technology, connector, and touch support can all matter. Older or less common panels may also be harder to source than widely stocked parts.

Display specifications and construction
In its own examples, iFix Electronics Erina says larger panels and higher resolutions such as QHD or 4K can cost more than common FHD panels. It also lists 144 Hz and 240 Hz panels as more expensive than 60 Hz panels, and OLED as more expensive than IPS. These are that repairer’s observations, not rules that apply to every model or provider. The same provider says touch support can add cost and that bonded Surface displays require more involved labor than a typical laptop panel.
Which component failed
A cracked panel may need replacement, but a black or flickering display does not by itself prove the panel is faulty. Depending on diagnosis, the problem could involve a panel, cable, backlight, or a complete display assembly; a black screen can also have a software cause. Ask what testing identified the failed part before approving an order.

Labor, diagnostics, and logistics
A parts listing is not the same as a fitted repair quote. A provider may charge separately for diagnosis, labor, shipping, or related work on a hinge, bezel, or cable. Ask for the full amount due, including applicable tax and any fees, as well as the expected turnaround.
Coverage and repair provider
Manufacturer and independent repair quotes may differ in parts, service terms, and warranty. Dell says an owner whose cracked or broken LCD is not covered by applicable Accidental Damage coverage is responsible for the full repair cost. Check the coverage and repair options for the exact device and region before paying out of pocket.

How to compare repair options
| Repair path | What to check | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Manufacturer-authorized repair | Model-specific estimate, coverage, parts, turnaround, and service terms | Dell directs owners to technical support; confirm the applicable coverage and options for your device and region. |
| Independent repair shop | Itemized parts and labor, diagnostic and shipping fees, part quality, and workmanship warranty | Lenovo advises comparing providers. Warranty terms differ by provider and part. |
| Do it yourself | Exact panel part number and specifications, model-specific instructions, tools, and warranty implications | Lenovo says DIY may reduce cost, but warns that delicate parts, incorrect connections, and incorrectly tightened screws can cause problems and amateur work may affect warranty coverage. |
When comparing two or more quotes, compare the total price and the same scope of work. Check the panel or assembly and its specifications, parts and labor warranty, diagnostic and shipping fees, part provenance, provider authorization, and turnaround. A parts-only listing should not be compared directly with a fitted repair. The available guidance does not establish one repair path as consistently cheaper or better for every laptop.
Questions to ask before approving a repair
- What is the laptop’s exact model, and what replacement panel part number will be used?
- Does the quote cover an LCD panel only, a touchscreen or digitizer, or a larger display assembly?
- What are the replacement display’s resolution, refresh rate, technology, and touch capabilities?
- Does the total include diagnosis, labor, tax, shipping, and any hinge, bezel, or cable work?
- What warranty covers the part and labor, and what exclusions apply?
- Is the replacement part in stock, and what is the expected turnaround?
- If the display is black or flickering rather than visibly cracked, what diagnosis confirms the panel is at fault?
Is it worth repairing a cracked laptop screen?
Compare the complete repair quote with the laptop’s age, overall condition, and replacement value. Include any other known repairs in that comparison, and check coverage before deciding whether to pay out of pocket. There is no universal repair-versus-replace price threshold in the available guidance; the sensible choice depends on the particular laptop and quote.

Mac laptop and DIY repair notes
Apple’s repair directory directs Mac laptop owners to product-specific repair cost and coverage information. Because the opened directory information does not state a screen-replacement price, request an estimate for the exact Mac model rather than relying on a general figure.
If considering DIY work, consult the service instructions and warranty terms for the exact model before opening the laptop. Lenovo cautions that screens and their connections are delicate; a loose connection or incorrectly tightened screw can cause problems, and amateur work may affect warranty coverage. A model-specific panel and precision repair kit do not replace the need for suitable instructions and experience.
