Landmark Admin, LLC reported in June 2024 that suspicious activity had been detected on its network and that personal information may have been involved. Its two notices differ in how they describe the unauthorized activity and in the data categories they list. Neither reviewed notice provides a confirmed number of affected people or a final investigation finding.
What happened, and when?
Landmark described itself as a third-party administrator for life-insurance carriers. In its June 26, 2024 release, the company said it detected suspicious activity on or about May 13, 2024, and later learned that an unauthorized third party had accessed its network. Landmark said evidence suggested some files may have been compromised. Landmark Admin’s June 26, 2024 release distributed by PR Newswire states: “Landmark is a third-party administrator for life insurance carriers and may have received certain personal information from producers, insureds, policy owners or policy beneficiaries for insurance policies which Landmark administered.”
An earlier notice dated June 12, 2024, hosted by the South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs, uses different wording: it says Landmark detected suspicious activity on or about May 13 and learned on May 14 that an unauthorized third party had attempted to access its network. The two notices therefore do not describe the access event identically. Read the June 12 notice.
What information may have been involved?
The lists differed between the June 12 notice and the June 26 release. The later release named the following types of information as potentially subject to unauthorized access:

- Social Security number or tax identification number
- Driver’s-license or state-issued identification number, and passport number
- Financial-account number
- Medical information and date of birth
- Health-insurance policy number
- Life and annuity policy information
The June 12 notice listed name, address, Social Security number and/or tax identification number, financial-account number, driver’s-license or state-issued identification number, date of birth, annuity policy information, and life-insurance policy information. It did not list passport number, medical information, or health-insurance policy number. Landmark said the information involved varied by individual; the lists do not mean that every item applied to every person. Anyone who received a mailed notice should use it to identify the information associated with their own case.
What response did Landmark report?
Landmark said it disconnected indicated systems and remote access, brought in outside cybersecurity specialists and IT personnel, and conducted a forensic investigation. It also said it reviewed affected systems to identify individuals and the types of information involved, and took steps to enhance network security and mitigate future harm. Both notices described the investigation or review as ongoing when published.

The June 12 notice said Landmark had no evidence at that time that personal information had been misused. Its exact statement was: “Landmark has no evidence that any personal information has been misused by third parties as a result of this Incident.” That was a time-bounded statement in the June 12 notice, not confirmation that misuse never occurred afterward.
What is not established by the notices?
The two reviewed notices do not provide a confirmed total of affected individuals, a final forensic conclusion, or a subsequent investigation-status update. They also do not establish that all the listed data types were involved for any one person. The notices should be read as Landmark’s disclosures at the time, rather than as a final account of every outcome.

What steps did Landmark recommend?
Landmark encouraged individuals to watch for identity theft, review account statements, and monitor credit reports for suspicious or unauthorized activity. The June 12 notice also advised contacting financial institutions and credit bureaus and considering a fraud alert or credit freeze based on their recommendations.
The June 26 release directed readers to AnnualCreditReport.com for free credit reports and to the Federal Trade Commission’s identity-theft information. These were resources and actions mentioned in the notice; Landmark did not recommend a paid identity-monitoring product.

Is the incident helpline still available?
The June 26, 2024 release listed 1-844-428-5109 and said representatives would be available for 90 days from the date of the letter, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.–8 p.m. Eastern, excluding U.S. holidays. That stated service period has elapsed, so the number should not be treated as a current support option without independent verification.
