Atomico led the round, which Lakera said brought its total funding to $30 million. The story has since moved on: Check Point announced an agreement to acquire Lakera in September 2025, and its current documentation describes AI Agent Security and AI Guardrails as part of its AI security offering.
What does Lakera do?
In its July 2024 funding announcement, Lakera described itself as a real-time generative AI security company focused on risks to GenAI applications. The aim of this kind of security is to screen interactions with AI systems and help protect applications from unsafe or policy-violating inputs and outputs.
Current Check Point documentation presents the offering in the context of AI agents, which can interact with users and use connected tools. Its AI Agent Security documentation describes three layers: discovering agents and connected tools, assessing their risk, and providing runtime protection through AI Guardrails.
Who invested in Lakera’s $20 million Series A?
Atomico led the $20 million round announced by Lakera on July 24, 2024. Lakera named Citi Ventures and Dropbox Ventures as participants, along with existing investors including redalpine. The company said its total funding reached $30 million after the round. Its announcement also said Atomico Partner Sasha Vidiborskiy would join Lakera’s board. Lakera’s announcement is the source for the funding and investor details.

How does AI Agent Security protect generative AI applications?
Discovery and risk assessment
Check Point’s current documentation describes discovery of AI agents and their connected tools, followed by risk assessment. This provides visibility into where agents operate and what systems they can interact with.
Runtime protection through AI Guardrails
AI Guardrails screens activity while an AI application or agent is running. The documented protection scope includes prompt attacks, data leakage, content violations, malicious links, and agent behavior that falls outside its permitted policy. Check Point says AI Guardrails can also be used on its own as a runtime-protection layer, rather than only as part of the broader AI Agent Security offering. API coverage
The current API overview identifies v2 as the API version and describes screening for user and model messages, agent interactions, tool calls, tool responses, and tool descriptions. It also documents an endpoint for requesting detailed detector results. That workflow coverage matters for agent applications: screening only a user’s prompt would not, by itself, cover what an agent sends to a tool or receives back. The API overview describes the current endpoints and supported interaction types.
What happened to Lakera after its Series A?
On September 16, 2025, Check Point announced that it had entered into an agreement to acquire Lakera. That announcement is the later corporate context for the 2024 financing: Lakera should not be described today simply as an independent standalone vendor. The announcement establishes an agreement, but does not establish here the transaction’s closing date or terms. Check Point’s acquisition announcement reported the agreement.

Check Point CEO Nadav Zafrir said, “AI is transforming every business process, but it also introduces new attack surfaces.” The statement appeared in Check Point’s September 16, 2025 announcement.

In the acquisition announcement, Check Point reported detection rates above 98 percent, latency below 50 milliseconds, and false positives below 0.5 percent. These are vendor-reported performance claims, not independently validated benchmark results in the sources cited here. The announcement also attributed more than 80 million adversarial patterns to Lakera’s Gandalf and reported support for more than 100 languages. Those figures should likewise be understood as claims made by Check Point, not as independent test findings.

The $20 million Series A established a funding milestone and Lakera’s stated focus; it does not, on its own, demonstrate product effectiveness or customer adoption. The available announcements do not establish revenue, customer counts, acquisition price, or independent validation of the performance figures.
