There is no verified evidence here that Kumma has been made safe through a specific update. A December 2025 letter from two U.S. senators recounted reports of explicit and potentially dangerous responses during testing. It did not establish how the bear behaves now, and the available sources do not confirm what safeguards FoloToy has since added or whether an independent party tested them. Parents should treat Kumma as an internet-connected AI toy whose current protections have not been independently established.
What prompted concern about Kumma?
Kumma is FoloToy’s AI Teddy, model F-202. In a letter dated December 16, 2025, U.S. Senators Marsha Blackburn and Richard Blumenthal described reports that testing had elicited sexually explicit conversation and guidance about lighting a match and finding knives. Those are the letter’s accounts of reported testing—not proof that every child will encounter those responses, nor an independent test report from the senators.
The letter called the reports “documented failures uncovered through real-world testing.” That is the senators’ characterization of the reported evidence. The letter does not establish whether the toy’s software or service has changed since the incidents it describes, or how it responds today. Read the senators’ December 16, 2025 letter.
Has Kumma received a safety upgrade?
The available information does not establish a specific post-incident safety upgrade. It also does not identify an independent test of updated safeguards tied to a named software or model version. So it would be inaccurate to say Kumma has been fixed, certified, recalled, or proven safe on this basis.

The senators’ letter asks manufacturers questions that matter to parents, including what safeguards block sexual, violent, or otherwise inappropriate content; whether independent testing occurred; whether toys pressure children to keep interacting; and what data is collected or shared. Those questions are not answers about Kumma. The letter is available here.
What is Kumma, and how does it connect?
FoloToy’s product page identifies Kumma as a 35 cm plush toy with a rechargeable 800mAh battery and a removable AI module measuring 55 × 50 × 40 mm. It lists 2.4G Wi-Fi and hotspot support, along with English, French, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, and other languages. These are manufacturer-listed specifications, not independent performance or safety findings. Check FoloToy’s product listing.

Because the product supports Wi-Fi or a hotspot, a buyer should ask how its online conversation features work and what happens when connectivity is unavailable. The product listing alone does not establish whether parents can disable cloud interaction, or what voice and conversation data are retained, shared, or deleted. Do not infer those privacy details from connectivity alone.
What should parents verify before buying or allowing use?
Ask the manufacturer for specific, current documentation rather than relying on broad assurances such as “age-adapted.” Useful answers should identify the feature, the software or service version it applies to, and the date and method of any independent test.

- Content boundaries: What blocks sexual, violent, self-harm, and dangerous household guidance, and how are those boundaries tested?
- Independent testing: Has an outside party tested the current version? Ask for the tester, test date, version, method, and findings.
- Parent controls: Can a caregiver disable internet-connected conversation, set limits, and stop interaction without relying on the child to do so?
- Pressure to continue: What prevents the toy from encouraging a child to keep secrets, continue chatting, or resist ending a session?
- Privacy: What audio and conversation data are collected, stored, or shared, for how long, and how can a parent delete them?
- Updates and support: How are software changes delivered, and where can a caregiver find dated safety and privacy documentation?
If a seller or manufacturer cannot answer these questions clearly, that uncertainty is relevant to the purchase decision. A parent can also choose not to enable connected conversation, if the product’s controls and setup allow it; do not assume that removing Wi-Fi preserves all functions or prevents all data collection.
What are the product’s availability and care instructions?

FoloToy says to remove the AI module before washing the plush. Its instructions recommend hand-washing or spot-cleaning and caution against machine washing and extreme heat. The manufacturer’s exact wording is: “Keep your FoloToy fresh by removing the AI module before washing.” Follow the full care instructions on the product page.
