KnownHost is the stronger documented fit for managed WordPress hosting if you value stated backup retention, published resource tiers, and 24/7 ticket and live-chat support. HostGator is worth considering for conventional shared hosting, especially when its one-domain or multiple-domain plan structure fits your needs. There is no substantiated speed or uptime winner: the providers’ published specifications are not a like-for-like performance test.

This comparison uses official provider information checked on October 4, 2026. Plan features, introductory offers, and prices can change, so confirm the selected plan and renewal amount before purchase.

KnownHost vs HostGator at a glance

What you’re comparing KnownHost HostGator
Best-supported fit in the available plan details Managed WordPress with published site, storage, memory, and monthly-visit tiers Shared hosting with Hatchling for one domain and Baby or Business for multiple domains
Price evidence Managed WordPress introductory and renewal prices are shown by tier; introductory prices are based on a three-year commitment. Introductory shared prices apply to the initial term. A separate chart lists regular prices for one-month, one-year, and three-year terms.
Backups Default 2-day and 1-week retention on every listed WordPress plan, using JetBackup Shared-plan comparison describes website backups as a courtesy; CodeGuard backup products are listed separately.
Support channels 24/7/365 live chat and tickets for managed WordPress Chat on Hatchling; phone and chat on Baby and Business
Performance evidence Vendor lists hardware, software, and locations, but these do not establish comparative speed. No like-for-like speed or uptime result is established by the cited provider material.

The comparison is between KnownHost managed WordPress plans and HostGator shared plans because those are the plan details with the clearest published specifications here. They are not equivalent hosting products. If you need shared hosting, compare shared plans; if you need managed WordPress, compare managed WordPress plans and verify current limits for both providers.

How the prices compare

KnownHost managed WordPress pricing

KnownHost’s managed WordPress page lists the following monthly prices. The introductory amounts are based on a three-year commitment, and the renewal figures are shown separately. These are vendor-published prices checked October 4, 2026.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Plan Introductory price per month Renewal price per month Listed sites
Entry $5.98 $11.95 1
Business $9.98 $19.95 1
Corporate $19.98 $39.95 5

Before choosing a tier, compare its site, storage, and visit limits with your actual needs. The displayed monthly introductory rate reflects a three-year commitment, not a month-to-month price.

HostGator shared hosting: introductory offers and regular prices

HostGator’s shared-hosting page advertised introductory starting prices of $2.75 per month for Hatchling, $3.95 for Baby, and $5.95 for Business when checked October 4, 2026. The company says the promotion applies only to the initial term; the starting rate should not be treated as the ongoing price.

HostGator’s regular shared-hosting chart lists these USD prices. For one-year and three-year terms, the full term is billed upfront; the monthly amounts below are the chart’s breakdowns, not monthly billing.

Plan 1 month 1 year (total; monthly breakdown) 3 years (total; monthly breakdown)
Hatchling $17.59 $158.27; $13.19/month $395.61; $10.99/month
Baby $24.19 $224.27; $18.69/month $593.61; $16.49/month
Business $30.79 $290.27; $24.19/month $791.61; $21.99/month

The chart’s regular prices are not a substitute for the renewal amount shown for your account. HostGator directs customers to its Renewal Center for account-specific renewal rates. Before checkout, compare the amount due for the initial term, the price after that term, and any domain or backup charges. Its pricing disclosures also note that VAT may be charged separately and that free-domain eligibility depends on plan and term conditions.

What each provider’s plans include

KnownHost managed WordPress

KnownHost publishes these resource limits for its managed WordPress tiers: Entry includes 4 GB of memory, 50 GB of NVMe storage, and a 100,000-visit monthly allowance; Business includes 4 GB, 100 GB, and 200,000 visits; Corporate includes 6 GB, 150 GB, and 500,000 visits. Entry and Business list one site, while Corporate lists five.

KnownHost also lists unlimited email accounts, LiteSpeed/LSCache, a free professional migration, scheduled backups, JetBackup access, and staging and cloning tools across the listed tiers. Corporate’s feature list adds a dedicated IPv4. Check the current plan page for the exact terms and limits that apply when you order.

HostGator shared hosting

HostGator’s shared plan comparison lists Hatchling for one domain and Baby and Business for unlimited domains. The displayed product material also lists one-click WordPress installation, free WordPress/cPanel transfer, unmetered bandwidth, SSL, and an included domain offer subject to the provider’s conditions. These shared-plan details should not be read as a directly equivalent resource specification to KnownHost’s managed WordPress tiers.

Backups and support

Backup retention and recovery

KnownHost states that every WordPress hosting plan includes 2-day and 1-week backup retention by default, powered by JetBackup. This makes the stated retention window easy to compare against your recovery needs. Confirm what is included in the current plan and how to access or restore backups before relying on them as your only copy.

HostGator’s shared-plan comparison calls website backups a courtesy, while its add-on chart lists CodeGuard backup products separately. The cited material does not establish an equivalent default retention period for HostGator shared plans. Ask what backup coverage applies to your exact plan, including retention, restore process, and any additional cost.

Support channels

KnownHost describes managed WordPress support as available 24/7/365 through live chat and tickets. The page also advertises a typical response “as soon as 3 minutes”; treat that as a vendor statement, not a guaranteed or independently measured response time.

HostGator’s shared-plan comparison lists chat for Hatchling and phone plus chat for Baby and Business. If phone support matters, that difference may influence your plan choice; confirm the channels available on the specific product you intend to buy.

Do the published details prove one host is faster?

No. KnownHost describes its managed WordPress stack as AMD EPYC processors, NVMe storage, CloudLinux, and LiteSpeed/LSCache, and lists availability in Atlanta, Seattle, and Amsterdam. Those are vendor-provided configuration and location details, not comparative speed results.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The cited provider information does not establish a controlled comparison using equivalent plans, site configurations, traffic, and test locations. It therefore does not support saying that either host has better real-world speed or uptime. If performance is decisive, test comparable configurations from the locations where your visitors are based and evaluate the same workload and measurement period.

Which provider should you choose?

Choose KnownHost when managed WordPress clarity matters most

  • You want a managed WordPress plan with published site, storage, memory, and monthly-visit tiers.
  • You value the stated default 2-day and 1-week backup retention.
  • You want the listed 24/7/365 ticket and live-chat channels or need to consider its listed Atlanta, Seattle, or Amsterdam availability.
  • You have checked the plan’s renewal rate and confirmed that its tier fits your site and traffic needs.

Consider HostGator when its shared plan structure fits

  • You need shared hosting and Hatchling’s one-domain or Baby and Business’s multiple-domain structure matches your use.
  • You are comfortable comparing the introductory offer with the regular term price and upfront payment.
  • The support channels included with the tier meet your needs.
  • You have checked account-specific renewal pricing and confirmed backup coverage and any relevant add-on costs.

Compare total cost, not just the advertised monthly figure

  1. Identify the hosting type you need and compare like-for-like products.
  2. Write down the amount due now, the term it covers, and the regular price after any introductory offer.
  3. Check whether domain registration or renewal, backup products, and other required features add cost.
  4. Confirm resource limits, backup and restore terms, and support channels for the exact plan.
  5. If speed or uptime is the deciding factor, seek comparable measurements rather than inferring a winner from hardware descriptions or marketing claims.
