It introduced taskbar icon scaling and a drag-to-share tray, among other preview changes. Feature availability was gradual, and Microsoft’s announcement describes an Insider test build—not a current or generally available Windows release.
What KB5055622 changed
Microsoft divided the rollout between features for Insiders who enabled “Get the latest updates as they are available” and features rolling out to everyone in the Beta Channel. Many changes used Controlled Feature Rollout, so eligible users might not see them immediately. Microsoft also cautioned that preview features may change, be removed, or never ship outside the Insider program.
Taskbar buttons and sharing files
- Smaller taskbar buttons: A new “Show smaller taskbar buttons” setting began rolling out under Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Taskbar behaviors. It is intended to make room for more app icons.
- Drag tray: Dragging a local file from File Explorer or the desktop can bring up a tray at the top of the screen. Drop the file on a displayed app to share it there, or choose “More…” to open the Windows share window.
Quick Machine Recovery test package
Microsoft said a “Quick machine recovery update for Windows 11” test remediation package was available to Insiders. Quick Machine Recovery installs it automatically when test mode is activated. Its appearance in Update history was itself rolling out gradually.
Recall, Click to Do, and Studio Effects
- Recall: Microsoft was testing a basic search-history feature in preview on Windows 11 version 24H2 Dev and Beta Channel Copilot+ PCs. Some Insiders might not have automatic snapshot saving working.
- Click to Do: A new “Ask Copilot” action could send selected text or images to the Copilot app prompt. Microsoft said this action was unavailable in the European Economic Area (EEA). On Copilot+ PCs, users could invoke Click to Do with a touch swipe and change a setting to return to notifications. Some users might experience an occasional launch failure.
- Studio Effects: On supported PCs, automatic framing was being enabled for users who had not previously used Studio Effects. A first-use notification offered the option to turn it off in quick settings.
Settings, accessibility, and input
Mouse indicator, pointer trails, and additional mouse behavior and pointer customization options were moving into Settings. The update also described a hover-timing option, an updated mouse pointer speed icon, and press-and-hold right-click options on the Pen and Windows Ink and Touch settings pages.

Fixes
Microsoft said it was gradually rolling out fixes for a semantic search problem that could persist until reboot, cases where Thunderbolt-connected external graphics cards were not discoverable, and Hyper-V Manager reporting zero percent CPU usage for virtual machines.
Known issues in build 26120.3671
- Quick Assist: It might not work for users who are not administrators.
- Windows Sandbox: It might not work or might be unavailable to install in this build. Microsoft said the issue was fixed in the next flight.
- Build number after reset: A PC reset could cause the displayed build number to show 26100 instead of 26120. Microsoft said this did not prevent future Beta updates.
- Recall: Some Insiders might find that snapshots are not saved automatically. Updated Microsoft 365 apps are needed to jump back into specific documents in Recall.
- Click to Do: Image-action files could remain in the temporary folder, and the feature could occasionally fail to launch. The manual cleanup location Microsoft gave is
C:Users{username}AppDataLocalTemp. Updating the Photos and Paint apps might restore missing image actions. - File Explorer: Home could crash for some Insiders.
- Task Manager: After adding a CPU Utility column, System Idle Process could show zero, and old calculations could remain in CPU graphs.
- Lock screen widgets: The weather widget could be temporarily unavailable for some EEA Insiders using the new Lock screen widgets experience.
How Beta Channel delivery worked
For Windows 11 version 24H2, Microsoft delivered Beta Channel updates through an enablement package, with builds in the 26120.xxxx series. Someone joining the Beta Channel was temporarily offered build 26120.3360 first, followed by the latest available update. That sequence describes the channel at the time of the April 3 announcement; it does not establish what build a new enrollee receives now.

To improve Windows Search on a Copilot+ PC, Microsoft recommended plugging in the PC during initial search indexing. Indexing status is available at Settings > Privacy & security > Searching Windows.

What this release means now
KB5055622 is a historical Beta Channel preview announcement dated April 3, 2025. It records what Microsoft was testing and the known problems in that flight; it does not confirm that those features or issues remain present in current Windows builds. Microsoft’s authors, Amanda Langowski and Brandon LeBlanc, put the preview status plainly: “Features and experiences included in these builds may never get released as we try out different concepts and get feedback.”
